Kitchen Before and After

Sometimes when purchasing a new home, we need to pick and choose what we want and what we need.  You may get the location, land and size you were looking for but the inside needs updating.  Our featured home, located at 456 Leah Dr. Fort Washington has everything we mentioned above but could definitely use a kitchen refresh.  Try using some of the tips listed below and made your kitchen look up to date at a very reasonable price.

1. Give Your Cabinets a Refresh –If you want to upgrade your kitchen cabinets without completely gutting the whole kitchen, try only buying new cabinet doors, and then give the existing cabinets a fresh coat of paint. Purchasing new cabinet doors for an average size kitchen can cost around $500. Don’t go straight to your local home improvement store right away, try Google first.  Type in “new kitchen cabinets” and you may find what you are looking for cheaper online than at the store.  But before you go shopping, you will need to take measurements.  Measure your current doors to see what sizes you’ll need and how many (make a list!). Do some comparison shopping first before you make your purchase. After you check online, you should also go into the local stores and see if they have any specials or closeouts that might be a good match to your tastes, but again the better deals are usually found online.

2. Fresh Cabinet Hardware – Once you paint your existing cabinets, to complement the new doors you can should update is the hardware. Hardware includes the door pulls and cabinet handles that are available in all kinds of styles and colors. Lowes, Target, Home Depot and maybe even Wal-Mart have many excellent options at great prices. You might spend $100-$200 on this hardware, but these are key elements to bring your kitchen current, and these really make a big difference. Amazon.com has many options here too, so you can go into home improvement store locally to look and really see what you want, get measurements, styles, brands... then go home and get on Amazon.com to purchase them all at the best price possible.

3. New Countertops – A new, up to date countertop will make your kitchen look just like new. Real granite countertops are great if you have the money, but you don’t need them to have a beautiful kitchen. Try Laminate Countertops (click here for more information on exactly what we are talking about). This type of countertop comes in different colors, holds up really well and is not very complicated to put in yourself if you are handy type person.

4. Vinyl Flooring with Grout - You can pay way under a thousand dollars for brand new floor that looks like real tile and even feels like real tile but is half the price! Adding grout between the tiles helps to make the tile look real. Try doing it yourself. Should only take a weekend to put it in!

Remember if you are looking for homes with great locations, Keller Williams Real Estate has some great home available in Fort Washington that may need a kitchen make over, including 7236 Hollywood Rd. Fort Washington and 456 Leah Dr. Fort Washington but now you are a kitchen updating expert! Good Luck!

Hi Joshua,

Great post regarding doing your own home repairs. Even if you hire someone to do these repairs it is cheaper to put on new cabinet doors and paint the walls and it will give it a new look. I really like your before and after photos. Thanks for the ideas.
