I Worked Over The Weekend and Really Enjoyed It!
I know there are agents that don't work on weekends. It's been a topic of discussion on AR and everyone has their reasons for and against. Working weekends has never really bothered me, in part, because most of my working life I've been involved with businesses that depended upon weekend business to survive. And the other, probably more important part is that I dont' have children... unless you count my two fur babies Judy and Wilma.
This past weekend a client, who is relocating to her new home in Avondale, AZ from out of state, ask if I could do her a favor and let the furniture movers into the home we just closed. I didn't hesitate to say yes. She wasn't being presumptuous, I had told her several times during the process of getting to the closing table that my goal was to make her move to Phoenix as smooth as possible and she was simply giving me the opportunity to put feet to my words.
I invited my hubby to go with me and we made a day of it. We arrived at the property, a 45 minute drive from my house, about a half hour before the furniture arrived. After inspecting the furniture for possible damage we had lunch at a restaurant I've been wanting to try and spent the afternoon shooting photos for upcoming neighborhood reports in two different North Phoenix sub-divisions before heading home.
After I got home I received a panic call from the buyers agent on a listing in The Preserve that was set to close the following Monday. The buyers had just completed their final walk through and decided they wanted the children's play center in the backyard removed before closing. This came totally out of left field. The subject never came up in the six or seven visits the buyers made to the property. The play center was in great conditon and cost my seller $1800 plus the labor to install it.
There were several ways I could have approached this issue but with my seller on vacation in Montana and five months of effort hanging in the balance I decided to just make the play center disappear. I began by phone calling, e-mailing and texting every former client with small children. With no immediate response and time running out, (it was now Sunday afternoon), I placed a "free to good home" on Craigslist.
I had just hit the publish button on Craigslist when my phone rang. It was a client, a young couple who had purchased a home two years previously and were starting a family. She and her husband agreed to remove the play center. They were so excited they almost beat me to the property. Three hours and several bottles of water later the play center was on a trailer headed to it's new home. My client, (the young couple), couldn't thank me enough and my seller was delighted that she didn't have to deal with this last minute fly in the ointment.
So I ended up working over the weekend and I enjoyed it. I'd do it agian without a second thought. Both clients were very happy with what they considered service above and beyond. My relocation client has already referred me to her family and my seller will be meeting me later this week to begin looking for her next home. The weekend was spent in service to my clients and a business that runs on service can't afford to run out.
