Remodeling and updating your home is a very important project, especially if you’re looking to sell your home, because certain renovations and upgrades can increase the value of your home. But, even if you’re not planning on selling, upgrades and renovations can give you a great return on investment by helping you save money in heating and cooling costs, increasing the energy efficiency of your home, or by simply creating a more inviting environment. 1. Your renovation doesn’t have to be major. Kitchens and bathrooms are the top rooms for renovating because they bring the greatest return on investment, but they’re also the most expensive rooms to renovate. If your kitchen and bathrooms don’t need a complete overhaul, look for less expensive ways of improving those rooms and other rooms in your home.

   • Try painting or refinishing kitchen cabinets instead of replacing them

   • New linoleum flooring can make a world of difference for a fairly low price

   • Repaint the walls of any room that needs it

   • Make sure your kitchen is well lit (try under-cabinet lighting)

   • Re-grout bathroom floors and tubs

   • Bathtubs can be resurfaces or reglazed if they’re in bad shape

   • Replace out-of-date medicine cabinets with something more trendy and invest in a new mirror

   • Try restoring color and shine to floors before jumping to replacing them
