Barry Hurd on Building Your On-Line Presence

There is a really good article today on RisMedia, written by Barry Hurd, titled Five Steps to Building Your On-Line Presence.

Barry is President of Social Media Systems an on-line marketing company working with search engine marketing and online social networks. Plus a prolific blogger.

The article talks about setting up on-line profiles, having a strategy and learning how to use the networks. In the article Five Steps to Building Your On-Line presence, Barry talks about the importance of inviting your 25 best contacts into your networks.

Reminds me of how many of us follow each other around and join outside networks when we are invited. Many of the networks listed in the article, I had not personally heard of.

Barry Hurd also has a profile here on Activerain. Although he doesn't post here a lot, what he does write is excellent.

Enjoy.... Great advice and suggestions we can all learn from.

Great post by Barry. I find it difficult to get excited about joining other groups because of the time element involved, but he gives practical measures that address that very thing.

Hi Missy - I read this article this morning, and printed it out. I thought it was great and has some good things on that list that I'm going to work on. I'm going to share it with a networking group I'm part of here in NH and Massachusetts.

Missy, I am just discovering this aspect of the Internet and finally took the plunge and joined LinkedIn. I should probably do Zoom Info as well. The question is how exposed do we want to be to others and when does it pay off and when does it just become more work to keep up with all the connections?

Barry is wise. I worked a bit on my social networks last night... I forgot about MyBlogLog.com and a couple of others.

Maureen, LOL. Actually I usually set one up whenever someone recommends it here. It taks just a little bit of time and gives me a link back to my blog and web-site. I think we all find ones we like the best and participate in the most.

Gail, I've been on linkedin for years, and have connected with many people over the years. It requires very little time.

Ann, did you recognize most of them. I didn't recognize many of them, so I'll have to do a little more exploring.

I read about "Jamie graduates from Navy BootCamp", I don't mean to sound stupid but to parents attend this? My son is going in to the Army BootCamp this month. He will be gone for 10 weeks in Fort Sill, then Fort Sam Houston for 16 weeks, AIT training. I'm not sure what I am supposed to go to. Thanks for sharing....

This is a great article, and it emphasizes the fact that you should have a plan before you just go out and join a bunch of social networks and just start writing about things and connecting with everyone. There should be a purpose and reason for doing what you are doing.
