Highlight Your Strengths, Outsource Your Weaknesses

There are things we are good at, there are things we are bad at.

Does that mean you give up? No.

What do you do instead?

Become self-aware. How do we know what we're good or bad at? Because we are aware of ourselves, our surroundings and our daily interactions. If we're oblivious to what's going on around us, and in us, how do we know what we need to work on? The first step and to always know what you're doing, regardless of what you're doing. If you go to close a deal, and most days you close it without problem, then one of your strengths is one-on-one client interaction. You have a head for making them feel safe, comfortable and ready to close.

Strengthen your strengths. Sounds weird right? If it's a strength why does it need to be any stronger?  Just like a sport, if you don't practice, you'll get weaker, so keep training and find ways to make what you're already good at, even better. Don't let your natural talents fall by the wayside, keep them well oiled for when you need them again.

Strengthen your weaknesses. This probably makes more sense but it's just as important. If something is not your forte, make it your forte. If you aren't the best at talking on the phone, make yourself a rough blueprint of the conversation. Practice what you want to say, write it down, anything to keep you from stumbling on the phone. At the very least, make sure you're getting better at repelling your weakness, not worse.

Get feedback. Maybe there's something you missed that can possibly be improved. Ask others for advice or an informal evaluation. Trust me, others notice when you're doing something right (and wrong) so take into consideration what others say about you, the only benefactor will be you.

Delegate. If all else fails, get someone else to do it. This doesn't make you dumb, it actually makes you smart because you are covering all your bases. If there's someone that can do something better than you, make sure they're on your team, you will both benefit from each other's skills in the long run.
