I was reviewing an article in the Wall Street Journal and how it highlighted the fact that even the wealthy are heading back to school to learn about how to manage their money.  The article highlighted several courses at various colleges and some companies that offer specialized courses.  The biggest question that arises is, "How do I know if my advisor is doing any good?"

Well, I cannot speak from a real estate agent perspective, but from a mortgage planner's perspective, this shows the window of opportunity is wide open.  If you do not already offer classes, seminars or something of educational value to the affluent, you are definitely missing something.  As a real estate agent, I imagine a seminar on 1031 exchanges and other investing tools and startegies would be a good start.

Personally, I have several courses I offer and I am looking to actually align myself with a Real Estate school to teach real estate professionals.  Below is a list of topics I have, some from the CMPS Institute and adapted to my style, others developed on my own or a compilation of things.  They range anywhere from a 15 minute presentation up to a 3 hour seminar per topic.

  • Truth About Mortgages
  • Advanced Mortgage Planning for High Net Worth Clients
(2 CE Credit Hours for Financial Planners)
  • The Mortgage Planning ARM of Your Advisory Practice
(2 CE Credit Hours for Financial Planners)
  • Mortgage Planning to Build Wealth
(2 CE Credit Hours for Financial Planners)
  • Financing Strategies to Sell More High End Homes
    (Presentation for Realtors)
  • 7 Keys to Profitable Real Estate Investment
  • How to Safely Manage Home Equity to Enhance Wealth
  • Your Credit Score
  • Identity Theft - Could You Be at Risk?

This is not my complete list, but can help you get ideas on topics that may be able to help you grow your business as well.  The article showed their is a market out there that is hungry for the information you can provide and your expertise can help them and in turn grow your business.

And dont forget to answer the question on everyone's mind.  Make sure your seminars/courses are accurate, viable and place you in that precious "trusted advisor" seat.

Rhonda,

Thanks for the comment.  Yes, I have done several of these courses, although so far it has only been when asked to do one.  I usually open these up for the moment to group meetings, where they invite me to come and speak to their group.

I welcome the opportunity to teach any group interested here in South Florida, but I plan on taking these seminars to the "public" this summer.  Unfortunately, due to my already filling schedule, I cannot implement them before that time.
