 Cheerleader

This is my first official "Mom" post on AR , but I'm sure each and every one of you can relate. I have been trying to get ready to go out of town all week. My middle child "Miranda" is a competition cheerleader with the "Maryland Twisters" and we are heading for Dallas , Texas for the NCA Nationals this weekend (2/16 & 2/17)

This is one of the biggest competitions that we attend and it is televised on ESPN2 in the "Spring". So our whole organization is headed down to "stir up" a litle wind in Cheer Country.

Of course the plan was to fly out tonight with a couple of other "Cheer" moms and relax before all the craziness starts on Friday. You know get the girls settled in before the practice Friday night and get ready for the BIG SHOW to start on Saturday.

But then the Real Estate gods decided to shine down on me or should I say dump down on me. First I had to track down paperwork a commercial deal that I completed over 1 week ago , seems the landlord has decoded he wants to pay me directly over six months instead of thru the Broker. Boy was that news to the Broker today , but it doesn't help my bank account.  Then a contract I ratified Monday seems to have a small problem , the seller can not prove it has been subdivided out from the property next to it. Yet the seller moved the settlement up from EOM to the 22nd..............why. Next , my seminar on 203K Rehabs had 11 no shows due to a wonderful ice storm that hit the Washington DC area , boy was I jumpy from drinking that Starbucks 12 pack coffee to go by myself. Then two clients decide after 3:30 PM that they want to see houses THIS weekend , I just kept thinking , I have been calling you since January and now you wake up. Oh and of course one of the Seminar clients was elated to find out she can qualify for a home at 5:00 PM today and can't wait to start looking.

Oh there goes my cell phone again , Mom , I thought our flight was leaving at 5:00 PM , no reschedule for 7:00 AM tomorrow , but there are no flights back now per SouthWest. Plan B - Honey haven't you always wanted to take a train ride , we can take our time getting home !!!

So here I sit waiting for the last load of laundry to dry , so that I can pack my suitcase and get up at 4:00 AM to be at the airport by 6:00 AM to fly down to Dallas and hope that maybe , just maybe the cell phone will stay a little quiet so that I can just be a Mom this weekend and enjoy the ride

Any Dallas AR folks look us up at the Dallas Convention Center and/or the Adams Mark Hotel downtown

Sounds like a typical day in the life of a mommy. Is that your daughter in the picture? She is adorable. Being a cheer mom is so fun. I was the assistant coach for my daughters cheer team last year in the unlimited division. What a great time we had and the girls were great. No fear and incredible abilities! Hope all went well at Nationals! Let me know how it went.

Charity - Yes thats my daughter , Miranda , she is #4 in our brood. She is on a Level 4 Youth team. We went against 5 other teams (4 Small & 1 Large). We came in 4th in our division , not a bad showing considering this team has only been together since Sept 07. This is her 7th year of competition cheerleading , so I think I'm stuck for the duration

What team did your daughter cheer for ? Was it a rec league or All-Star ? Does your daughter cheer this year ?

Laura, I don't have girls, but I remember those trips away for Baseball. It always seemed that "something suddenly came up" every single time! Good luck to the Twisters, and I'm glad it's not weather related :-)

Sounds like they did great. As long as the girls had fun and did their best that really IS all that matters. She is still young and has plenty of time for stressing over competition. Only together since Sept 07 is great for going to a National Competion already. We never made it to any Nationals, only regional but boy do they get tough! My oldest daughter that I was the assistant coach cheered for the SYB Panthers in MD. My youngest daughter cheered when she was 5 for the SYB Prince Frederick Eagles. Now that was too cute to have the 1st year flag cheerleaders just learning their new cheers. My oldest also did cheering at 5 along with many other activities. The oldest dosen't cheer now ... now she is into Theater Group. Kids love to try out so many different things and I think as much exposure to different experiences as possible is wonderful for them.

Colleen - I have 5 girls so I have had years of cheer & ballet , only 2 years of basketball from our oldest daughter. A football or baseball game would be a great change of pace. At least I wouldn't be in lock down from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM :)

Charity - We have to remind the girls to have fun , at Level 4 they get pretty serious sometimes , that is why I haven't pushed her to Level 5 yet !!!
