Blogger Burnout And The Steps To Avoiding It

Blogger-burnoutBlogger burnout is the feeling that blogging is no longer worth the effort.  Taking the time to develop unique content for a blogsite no longer outweighs the perceived pain of the effort.

Burnout comes from one of three reasons: The blog is not successful enough of a marketing effort, the blog is too successful as a marketing effort, or you haven’t paced yourself (too much, too soon). Sure, outside life and business issues may have a crippling effect on one's passion and availability for blogging, but this should not be considered a burnout as much as a distraction.

If your business blogging effort isn't paying off based on the expectations you had set, the willingness to keep the pace starts to seem unreasonable, even unnecessary.  The lack of results can seem like you are shouting into a hurricane; the effort is great but the reaction is next to none.

If you are burning out due to lack of success you probably fall under any combination of the following

Your expectations of success are not in line.
I preach, "If you write it, they will come" - But don't think for a second that there isn't a formula tied to it.

Your content is not focused enough

If your content is all over the place, your audience will lose interest.  Without having an expectation of what you will be delivering on a regular basis, your readers will return irregularly.  You build trust by educating your audience on their needs, waiver from this and they will be educated elsewhere.

Well, I suppose if one gets tired of blogging, the new craze is to pay someone to blog for you. And if your paid blogger runs out of material, you can take other people's blogs and reconstitute them, change a few key words, and Voila!~ New Content! And then at some point, you can pay someone to read your posts, and comment on them, helping to give your blogsite the appearance of viable traffic.

Rich, that logo is HOT!

I know you're kidding to some degree here... but just to clarify for the rest:

Content is the goal, not unnecessary traffic.  The consumer will find you with your focused content being the magnet... the appearance of  traffic is nothing more than the ego boost or fear of failure.

Stay true to your consumers needs, schedule time to make it happen, be consistent and hang in there.  It is a brilliant marketing force when executed soundly.

TLW-

Or should I now officially say: Billie,

I have been working on building the business that is the Real Estate Tomato.  As I may have revealed a bit in the above article, an effective business blog can take away from the actual blogging time... and my AR participation has suffered from it.

I never forget about the gang, just can't always find the time to stop by like the old days.

Glad you liked the T!

At least try to pop by once a month and let us know you're still hanging with us. I missed ya.

Love It. We are his and hers tomatos   :)

Hope to see a little more of you around the rain...We need you! Wink. Wink.

Jim, I think I'm writing for the reader and hopefully not jumping around but then again who knows. Now that I am a graduate with my own chicklet and have been thrown out of the nest whence I came prematurely...it's a scary world out there! And when I read article such as this ... it makes me ponder!!!

I'm guilty of several blogging sins - didn't pace myself and got overwhelmed and never finding the focus for one of my blogs.  At least one of my blogs is successful and that's kept my motivation going and I'm learning to pace myself.

Rich - I read in the PI that MSFT got caught offering to pay a blogger...to change articles on Wikipedia.

As a new blogger who is still learning the industry,  these are good words of wisdom. I've been reading, reading and reading a lot of info on "successful" blogging, and you guys have some good info. Thanks.

Pace, don't overdo. And for those that have found other prioritie - do stay in touch, once a week or once a month.
