Top 100 Real Estate Blogs... Did YOUR Blog Make THE List?

grapes I am not sure who Geek Realtors is...  but they published a top 100 real estate blogs list recently.  I saw a discussion of the list on Twitter.

http://geekrealtors.com/ :

I called a friend because her blog made the list!  Elaine's Reese's Pieces of Real Estate was 98th on the list of 100 when I called her with the glad tidings yesterday.... today Elaine's blog is at 101. Congratulations all the same, your blog caught their attention! The buzz on Twitter was that BloodHound Blog had not made the list... but it is right up there at the top... now.. Number four on the list.  deservedly so. If Elaine was 98 and is now at 101 at least two other blogs have wormed their way in (and I mean wormed in the nicest way of course... ) The blog wants you to feed it your blog.

Congrats to all who made this list, before I start whining about who did not make this list.

Sour grapes...? Neither of my other blogs made the list.

WHO is on the list?

Lots of great blogs including some of the blogging apprentices from Project Blogger made the list including:

Kevin Tomlinson's beautiful 'South Beach Condo Blog' is there!  Ines' hot 'Miamism' made the list! Jackie's  'Real Estate Sizzle' showed up on this list!

...but where's Teri Lussier's TheBrickRanch.com ? Where's Apprentice Kelly Kilpatrick's blog? Where's Julie Ferenzi's blog?  Or apprentice - Tisza Major-Posner's blog...?Where's the competition's winner Mary Pope-Handy's blog?   Live in Los Gatos (or any of Mary's blogs...) hope I did not miss any of the blog apprentices, myself.

Some of the  Sellsius's Top 12 Women Real Estate Bloggers- 2007 Edition   made the list:

Maureen Francis' 'Mi Oakland County' blog is on the list!  Laurie Manny's 'Long Beach Real Estate' is there... Ines (again), Teresa Boardman's 'St. Paul Real Estate' is there.  Roberta Murphy's 'Luxury Home Digest' is on the list of the top 100 real estate blogs

...but where is Sharon Simm's 'Simms Team - St Petersburg Florida Homes & Condos Tampa Bay' blog?  Is Kris Berg's San Diego blog there?  Is Diane Kohn's Reno blog there? Where's Rhonda Porter's Mortgage Porter blog? Did  Frances Flynn Thorsen's The RealtyGram make the cut?  Missy Caulk's 'AnnArborRealEstateTalk.com'? How about Kristal Kraft's blog? Is it there?  Maybe it is she moved from her former blog... since the Sellsius Top 12 was announced... is Denver Dwellings on the list of the top real estate blogs?

Notorious blog  'Miami Condo Investments' made the list... great chance to catch up... Lucas Lechuga who writes that blog is with Keller Williams Realty now .. but where's the notorious Real Estate Weenie?

Of course the big blogs..  Rain City Guide, Sellsius Real Estate Blog, BHB, The Real Estate Bloggers and more are on the list.

Those company blogs made the list Trulia's blog ("Hi my name is Rudy") and Zillow's blog and Carnival of Real Estate are on this list.

Blogs that write to real estate bloggers about technology,  for example Joel Burslem's Future of Real Estate Marketing and Mike Price's 'Mike's Corner' made the list. Realty Blogging, is there of course, they wrote the book on real estate blogging. Jim Cronin's  'The Real Estate Tomato' and Mary McKnight's 'RSS Pieces' blog are on the list.  The RSS Pieces blog is on the list as 'Realtor Blogging Service'?

Is Jeff Turner's 'Real Estate Shows' there?  Is 'Geek Estate' there?  Is Pat Kitano's 'Transparent Real Estate' there?

Some of the bubble blogs are on the list... 'nuff said.

Venerable real estate blogs like Jim Duncan's Real Central VA, 360Digest by Marlow Harris, Jay Thompson's  The Phoenix Real Estate Guy, Dustin Luther's 4realz.net (not an old blog but started by a blogger who commands a lot of respect in the blogosphere), Ubertor Real Estate Blog and Rachel Dollar's  Mortgage Fraud Blog are on the list.... Gosh I hope venerable means what I think it means... a lot of the blogs mentioned by me above fall under venerable as well...

Questions....

Why is Matrix ranked at 106  w/ a Page Rank of 7?

The list used Page Rank, Technorati score and Alexa score... to score the blogs ...didn't anyone tell them Alexa sucks? Was there a formula?  Or bloggers choice (nothing wrong with that!)

Will NAR request Geek Realtors change it's name because of the trademark violation?

What is the Geek Realtor site?  Syndicating the best of the best in real estate blogging? Creating a list of those blogs up front...

Maureen, that list is terrible! Virtually useless IMHO! For all the reasons you mentionned and more.

Matthew I did some research after posting this.  It is a hand picked list of blogs and the only thing they are doing is ranking those blogs.  The blogs in the database are just ranked against one another (still doesn't explain Matrix but maybe they did not get all three (PR, Alexa, Technorati)  into the database so blogs can rate higher than it with a lower PR...

He has his own blog on the list, the only one with a PR2, in the list there.  There are no comments on the site with the list, but on the other site, there is a conversation about the algorithm... or lack of one...

The whole point is to encourage real estate blogging... high ideals... (or maybe to sell ads?) you can do free classified advertising on one of the two sites ... or maybe both.  I knew the Geek Realtor site had NO incoming links (or maybe a few.) The other site has very little either.

He wants people to send him their blogs and they'll work into the ranking.

Like the defunct real estate list on PubSub?  Actually all of PubSub (not just the real estate list)  is defunct but I think being reintroduced in 2008.

Here's more of the story from the About page on the blog with the discussion of what the rank means:

"I am a former real estate agent. I was licensed in the state of New Jersey in 2006 and have actively worked as Real Estate agent for 6 months. Although I enjoyed my time in the industry, my true passion is Internet and in particular Internet Marketing. If you think you can use my advise drop me an e-mail."

Well, as I told you yesterday, I really don't care what the "blogosphere" thinks of my blog ... although it is rather exciting to make the list if only perhaps temporarily. My blog is written to try to appeal to potential clients and that seems to be working. (3 calls in the past 2 weeks to list homes JUST from my blog).

So I guess I'll just "keep on, keeping on". I DO appreciate your phone call yesterday because I would never know these things if you didn't keep me informed.

While I don't write to the real estate blogosphere on my blogs (except here on ActiveRain)  I have a lot of respect for people like Joe and Rudy for what they've done to encourage blogging and pioneers like Dustin Luther and other  old timers...

I am disappointed that it is just a list of the real estate blogs he knows of... and that he has no Google juice to impart...

You were on the last blog list by the guy in Pittsburgh PA... I forget his name.  That blog is on this list... and Pittsburgh is in the title...Pittsburgh something or other Daily???  He  has not posted since June or July... his last list was 450 real estate blogs and it may have been when your blog was on Earthlink.  I think I sent him your new link.

On the blog where the comments are (sorry I don't want to give the Geek Realtor blogger or his other blog a link) you show up as number 98 and you will climb the list if you gain links or traffic.  In fact I don't think he had links or traffic for your blog so as your Technorati climbs you will rise on his list. Maybe he will be the next biggest thing in the blogosphere.

I found it yesterday and was pretty excited without knowing what the list was - always glad to make it to any list! :)

I had the same thoughts you mentioned as I read down the list.  There were names of many talented people going thru my mind.  Maybe we should start our own list.

Ines in the comments someone was a real fan of yours too. You have lots of fans!  Congrats for making all the lists!

Chris there was a site, organization called PubSub who had a database for a bunch of different blog types. Sometime in 2006 they introduced a Real Estate list.  I may get this garbled.  PubSub contracted with the Realty Blogging guys to run the Real Estate list but PubSub had financial troubles, then there was going to be a merger or someone was going to buy PubSub and then that fell through... so Realty Blogging was never able to add blogs to the database. On the Realty Blogging  site there's a remnant of it...

Bonnie Erickson's blog was on the PubSub real estate list and I was so jealous.  They listed mine but it never got plugged into the database.  There was a Columbus blog on it that had not been updated in months and montsh and months.   Maybe I was very impressionable in 2006..but I was impressed.

I did not realize this was that sort of thing until I read the comments. I thought it was just a list...

I sure am not a big enough geek to do a database and automate it...this guy has a programmer doing it for him.

Hi my name is Vlad and I am partially to blame for the list. Firs of all thank you for bringing our list up on your blog. We appreciate your feedback.

Thanks for quoting from the about page form my blog. :)

I hesitate to comment about connection made. I will just say this. If anything the list have already brought a visitor or two to the blogs on the list.

We did miss many of the real estate blogs. However if you have real estate blog we will be happy to add it to the list. Visit our list a week from now when we have aggregated more data. We will welcome any suggestions and constructive criticism, as long as it is not taken out of contest- like the quotation  from my about page.

Bloggers love seeing their name on a list. It means a lot more though coming from a site  some authority.

Bloggers also like links to their websites :) even if the they are on the receiving of criticisms.

Howdy Maureen:  I see Michigan has 2 representatives on the top ten list of women.  We're proud of our bloggers from this part of the country:)

02/20/2008 08:24 AM by Ed Vogt, Grandville, MI Audu Real Estate (Audu Real Estate)

Yup Maureen Francis and Missy Caulk made the Sellsius list in 2007 along with a number of women across the country.  Sellsius is a real estate blog with authority!

It seems the list is different than I imagined...thanks for publishing the info Maureen makes me wonder how some of the great bloggers on rain were not included.  Nice post.

02/20/2008 09:30 PM by Gary White~ Grand Rapids Real Estate, FLexIt Realty, a call or click away! (Flexit Realty)

do you mean on their AR blogs?   I wonder if Vlad etc. would even consider an AR blog... or ActiveRain members on their outside blogs?  AR blogs don't have a Technorati score, or a separate Alexa score either... I have not gone back to see if he has got a lot more on the list.

I am sure he would add any re blogs to the list. I am not sure how automated it is.

02/22/2008 06:11 PM by Maureen McCabe - Central Ohio real estate (Real Living HER)

No, looks like I didn't.  Stupid me all this time I've been focused on having my blog be on top of Google for my local market area, so I've been falling way the hell behind on my popularity contests.

I don't know how I plan to make any money that way when all I can do is appeal to consumers searching for "Sacramento Real Estate".

Don't those silly buyers and sellers know they're supposed to be reading I_am_a_real_estate_pundit_hearthrob.com and picking me out from there?

Want to be part of the Real Estate Johnosphere?  I think you'd be fabulous.

02/25/2008 09:45 PM by Elite Properties

Oh, hey, it turns out you can't win if you don't play. I'm #61.  :)

Thanks for mentioning it -- got a free link out of it.

Maureen and Gary,

I have not included Active Rain blogs simple because AR has big advantage over other blogs. AR has hundreds of bloggers contributing to the content of this website. I am still not sure if it was good idea to include corporate blogs to the list.

I would however be more than happy to include any blogs to the list of AR members as long as blogs are not hosted at acriverain.com.

Again thanks for the feedback. Hope the list is sending you some visitors.
