Inspirational Thoughts From The Dalai Lama

THE PARADOX OF OUR AGE

https://www.activerain.com/blogs/myrljeffcoat

“WE HAVE BIGGER HOUSES, BUT SMALLER FAMILIES;

MORE CONVENIENCES, BUT LESS TIME;

WE HAVE MORE DEGREES, BUT LESS SENSE;

MORE KNOWLEDGE, BUT LESS JUDGEMENT;

MORE EXPERTS, BUT MORE PROBLEMS;

MORE MEDICINES, BUT LESS HEALTHINESS;

WE’VE BEEN ALL THE WAY TO THE MOON AND BACK,

BUT HAVE TROUBLE CROSSING THE STREET TO MEET

THE NEW NEIGHBOUR.

WE BUILD MORE COMPUTERS TO HOLD MORE

INFORMATION, TO PRODUCE MORE COPIES THAN

EVER, BUT HAVE LESS COMMUNICATION.

WE HAVE BECOME LONG ON QUANTITY,

BUT SHORT ON QUALITY.

THESE ARE TIMES OF FAST FOOD

BUT SLOW DIGESTION;

TALL MAN BUT SHORT CHARACTER;

STEEP PROFITS BUT SHALLOW RELATIONSHIPS.

IT IS A TIME WHEN THERE IS MUCH IN THE

WINDOW, BUT NOTHING IN THE ROOM.”

~DALAI LAMA

Andrea - It is the simplicity of his teachings that blaze a path to truth.

Richard - Ain't it the truth!  When you stop to think about it in our career terms, it's like listing a home that is totally cluttered, but then convincing the owner to get rid of the junk so the buyer can truly see the house!  The Dalai Lama's simple wisdom, is so easily understood.

Hi Myrl, The problem with wisdom is that not many want to hear it anymore. I love this and it is so profound. Awesome!

Myrl, That is a great quote.  I had not seen the entire quote before, it is really one of those stop and think type of quotes!

William - We have become a tecnololgical/automated/quick gratification society.  We work ourselves to death for wealth to buy things we think will make us happy.  Yet, when we achieve those things, we quickly abandon them in pursuit of something else, because we are not yet happy.  What we forget is that happiness is a simple thing, that must be acquired by fostering peace within!

Steve - You're absolutely right, there is a sadness to the truth.  I think it's because we realize we derailed somewhere in our own lives.  The bright side is that if we realize it, we can correct it and improve our life quality.

Tony and Darcy - There are several of the Dalai Lama's quotes that have that effect on me.

Profound wisdom, Myrl. I see us taking giant steps ahead but leaving too much behind too. Thanks for giving us something to think about.

Put 40 years of experience to work for you

This could have been written 40 years ago and it still makes sense. So, let's jump right over to Thoreau for our solution to all of this madness, which is SIMPLIFY, SIMPLIFY.

What stuck me, as I read it, now what? We know it is inspiring, but will it inspire enough to do one thing about it?

Make it a great weekend!

Myrl, there are truths that are timeless with the appropriate adjustments of course.   We should always remember that in the end, we leave the world pretty much as we came into it, we won't be able to take nothing with us.

Myrl,

And so it is written...

This one should hang in every public building, schools, churches, shopping centers, public squares, hospitals, nursing homes, universities, office building, cafeteria, department store, shopping center, computer store, and every home in America.

Thank you for giving me a lot to ponder today.

Thanks for the GORGEOUS photo. The words of the Dali Lama are true. Now... we need to apply the knowledge to our lives so that it becomes wisdom.

Myrl, that is an absolutely stunning photo!  I just watched Seven Years in Tibet with Brad Pitt where be befriends the Dalai Lama as a young boy.  What a good movie.  That is a very interesting and thought provoking quote.

Lisa - I actually own "Seven Years in Tibet."  It is based on a true story.  There is something so genuine about the Dalai Lama's sayings, that I am often touched by them.  I remember his saying that "Suffering was OK."  I had the most difficult time understanding that idea.  However, after some time, I came to realize that without suffering we are not given the opportunity to learn compassion.   There are 3 people shuffling around the planet I wish I could spend an afternoon on a lawn chair with.  One is the Dalai Lama.  Another is Warren Buffet, and lastly but not least, Whoppie Goldberg:-)
