School is starting back in Clarksville on August 7. Here are some Back to School Safety Tips that will help keep your children safer going to and from school. Our children are our future and it is our responsibility to see that they stay as safe as they can be.

Five Star Back to School Safety Tips
Do you have safety plans in place for your children now that going back to school is right around the corner? These statistics tell the whole story of why we need to be vigilant in safety for our precious cargo of children.
Safety expert John Walsh has come out with 5 Back to School Safety tips we all need to examine and implement:
1. Develop a family safety plan for emergencies that’s easy to use and includes: Designated meeting places outside of the house, emergency contact information and a first-aid kit.
2. Landmark your child’s school route with a map - designate “safe zones” like schools, community centers and libraries where you know they can get help in an emergency
3. Get to know the other children and parents in your neighborhood and make sure your kids use the “buddy system” when walking to and from school.
4. Reinforce “stranger danger” - Saying no to strangers or any adult who makes them feel scared or uncomfortable, and quickly getting away while yelling “this is not my parent.”
5. Consider personal safety products, designed to help keep your kids safe in the case of any uncertain or dangerous situations including: Getting lost, threatening strangers, allergic reactions or medical emergencies or bullying.
