Let's Do Lunch...
I was just reading an article that someone suggested on LinkedIn yesterday on what successful people do during lunch and it reminded me of an article that Joe Petrowsky wrote a month or so ago about making the most of your lunch time, taking a break and meeting with someone.
In this article by Laura Vandercam entitled What Successful People Do During Lunch, she outlines reasons why it is important not to just ignore this time as I often do, and why it is important not to just eat in front of your computer while working and suggests a few very productive things to do during this time.
She suggests that when we deny ourselves this break that we end up taking many "unofficial" breaks later that we do not have time for.
Successful people do something productive with their lunch time.
- Take their Team to lunch, great for morale, team building, discuss client projects, replaces a lot of other meetings, and who doesn't like a free lunch.
- Move, take a bit of time to get away from the desk, excercise, or just walk to a good restaurant.
- Make it a Date, reconnect with your spouse or a good friend or a colleague, make it a bit of uninterrupted time alone.
- Network, take a colleague, supplier, competator, etc out to lunch. A great time to get to know each other better and find out if and how you can help each other out.
- Meet someone new, get to know someone from the office that you never got to know before, meet some a new referral partner, meet someone new off the street, meet someone who will help you to grow.
- Have some Alone time, do something without interruptions, do your planning, rejuvenate, or whatever.
