Everything Texas #2 in the Series - Ceil painted this picture

 Image:Bluebonnet1.jpg

Texas State Flower

Bluebonnet (Lupinus)

The Texas state flower is named for its color and it is said , the resemblance of its petal to a woman's sunbonnet. It blooms in the early spring and can be readily found along highways and fields throughout central and south Texas.

It was adopted as the official state flower by the Texas Legislature in 1901.

Fall is the time to plant bluebonnets and other wildflowers in Texas. It is said it is best to cast the seed and rake into the soil. This seed will lie until enough moisture and cool temperatures stimulate and germinate the seed. The seeds need full sun and well-drained soil.

You can expect to see bluebonnets begin to shoot up sometime in March.

Hope you will look for and enjoy seeing the Texas Bluebonnet and other wildflowers this spring.

Carl, I just love bluebonnets and all the beautiful wildflowers that grace our Texas highways.

02/15/2008 08:43 AM by Ricki Eichler, your Texas Hill Country connection (Hill Country Estate Properties)

Hery Ricki, thanks for stopping by. I had some nice bluebonnet pictures on my other computer that crashed so used this one. Maybe this spring we will get some new pictures. We really enjoy taking a drive up the hill country in spring to see all the wild flowers. Don't know what it will be like this spring since we haven't had much rain.

Carl, I don't know about you but I am really ready to see those bluebonnets and be in to spring.

02/15/2008 06:09 PM by Marchel Peterson Spring TX Real Estate E-Pro ABR (Results Realty)

Marchel - We are not  winter type people--spring is the best with all the wildflowers and especially enjoy all our new fawns that are born on the place. We really live in a nice area of Texas. I agree with Ricki, we can all enjoy the wildflowers that grace our highways and landscape. It's too bad we have to think about the cost of gasoline when it comes to taking our weekend drives.

Thanks for stopping by.

If anyone has pictures of bluebonnets and you want to share ,please send them to me at realestateinspector@yhoo.com. We lost our pictures when the computer crashed.

Thanks, Carl

Carl,   You know I'm a transplanted Texan but I love our Texas Bluebonnets.  I get so excited when they start blooming!  I know for sure Spring has arrived.   :)

"The bluebonnet is to Texas what the shamrock is to Ireland, the cherry blossom to Japan, the lily to France, the rose to England, and the tulip to Holland." - Jack Maguire, historian

Hey Judi: If you live in Texas and don't enjoy the bluebonnets something must be wrong. Just wish they would last a little longer.

Dale: Didn't know they had bluebonnets anywhere else; see we all learned something. Ceil painted that picture about 25 years ago. When they start blooming this year she will get some better pictures and post.

Shirley: That's right, the bluebonnet is Texas. Can't wait for them to start peeking out along the highway.

Thanks all for stopping by.

Howdy Carl

Will there had not been any here before I planted them.

I do have to replant Bluebonnet seeds every year.

Have a good one

Carl,  Ceil painted that beautiful painting!  Oh, she's sooo talented.  I cannot wait for the Bluebonnets to start blooming.  I DO wish they'd last longer but they sure are beautiful while we have them.  Shouldn't be too much longer, we'll see them popping out along the highways!

Nice Painting. I guess in the spring 'Every thing's Blue in Texas".

04/12/2008 11:48 PM by Christopher Currins -Metro East Home Inspector (CBC Home Inspections)

Christopher - Everyone looks forward to the Bluebonnets blooming every spring. They don't even mow the hiways and pastures until they have quit blooming. The Texas Real Estate Group now has a contest going to find the prettiest wildflowers in the state; should be interesting to see what pics they come up with. We just had our First Active Rain Gathering yesterday over in Bandera, TX and met so many nice people. We had members that came from Austin area  Houston area, Lake Livingston and the Texas Hill Country. We also had a special surprise guest, Tom Plant from California came to join us. Was a special surprise guest of Judi Morgan.Come on back often and visit The Texas Real Estate group or the Lone Star group or the All Things Texas group, they always have some blogging material to promote the state.

I miss my bluebonnets. I miss driving from Houston to College Station in the spring.

Native Californian born and raised in Kingsville, Texas. (One gets to be a native Californian after spending at least two years here! LOL)

Hello Russell: You need to join one of the Texas Groups so you can keep up on the news. The Lone Star Group is a good one or Texas Real Estate Professionals. I do have my own group: Hill Country Inspector.

Right now south texas is getting hit my a hurricane. Came in at South Padre - I think just allot of wind damage. It is dry over here in Canyon Lake - New Braunfels area. We are between San Antonio and Austin.

Glad you enjoyed the Bluebonnet blog. Come back and visit again soon.

Spent many a college weekend not at Texas A&M University, but rafting down the Guadalupe River. Fourth of July weekends were spent at Lake Travis or Canyon Lake. Now I'm relegated to the beaches, but we do have four seasons out here: rain season, mudslide season, drought season, and fire season. Of course, all four seasons provide 76°F average temperature, so I guess that's good!

My hometown's getting some good rain from Madame Dolly.

07/23/2008 10:40 PM by Russel Ray, San Diego home inspector (Property Consultant)

Russell - Seems in your area you have to deal with allot when it comes to the seasons. The nice weather temperature is what makes it so desirable. We have allot of people moving to this area from California and they say the trade off is worth it and have chosen the Hill Country as an alternate; with very affordble housing and less tramatic when it comes to weather. Most of them are paying cash for a much larger home and can still play golf, have the lakes in the area and still just 150 miles from the Texas coast.

A lot of pre-listing inspections I do are for empty-nesters who are "downsizing." Their idea of downsizing is moving to the San Antonio-Austin corridor, the Hill Country, mainly because of the lack of a state income tax there. They downsize from a 1,750-SF house to a 2,750-SF house and pocket $300,000 or so. Then they can spend some of that $300,000 savings on air conditioning. Sounds reasonable to me!

Carl and Ceil, wow. Ceil you have talent! What a great picture! Painting is something I've always wanted to try but have not gotten around to...

This is a wonderful grouping of Texas information. Have you gotten any leads from this? Just curious. I like it. You two have a great day and stay cool.

Later in the rain~Deb

Deb - Carl's series on Everything Texas (just completed #13) has been very successful. When he started this series he had no idea Localism would be the direction; therefore this will only be an additional credit to blog on AR.

He has really enjoyed promoting the local area. Wth his inspection business that takes him to San Antonio and surrounding counties he will never run out of things to blog. Texas is a Great state and this is a wonderful way to promote our local area through Localism.

He just finished #13 EVERYTHING TEXAS SERIES blogging Enchanted Spring Ranch
