About a month ago, while suffering with some aches and pains, I decided it was time to try Yoga. Thanks to Google, I found a great studio a short distance from our house in Hayesville NC and have been enjoying classes two or three times a week. But - more about the wonderful Sunrise Yoga Studio later.
Today the studio was offering a “Roots” workshop conducted by yoga instructor Rich Fabio from Asheville. Roots is a yoga sequence with cutting edge alignment techniques coupled with powerful mind-body discipline. Don’t ask my why I thought that a yoga newbie like me was qualified to attend this workshop. Regardless, I forged ahead blindly and I am so glad I did.
There were two sessions - a real “yoga workout” for two hours in the morning. The twelve of us in the class represented all levels of yoga experience. It didn’t take long to build a fire in our bodies and start to really sweat. Seriously!
After a brief break, the second session was designed to be therapeutic. Rich addressed specific issues we were having and showed us positions and postures to help our bodies heal. While I came away very tired I was totally refreshed.
For my Western North Carolina friends, if you have a chance to attend one of Rich’s workshops I strongly recommend it. For those of you not fortunate enough to live in the mountains look for a practitioner in your area.
