Interesting Demolition, Counter With No Cabinets.

While looking at a home with extensive water damage yesterday, I came across this in the bathroom area. The cabinets were demolished without removing the counters or putting in any supports. So the first thing that came to mind was this – what if the counter fails. If the counter fails, there is a chance of the plumbing leaking again.

Yes, that doesn't seem very stable. Also, it would have been better if the tile was installed underneath the cabinets.

That doesn't look real promising to me Tom.  Potential for more issues indeed.

No doubt you sat on the counter to see just how much weight it would take before failing.  Right?

Or a good, heavy lean on the counter?

Hi Tom

It's not IF the lines will leak but when. The longer they wait the better the chances of counter failure.

Have a great day in the Sacramento area.

Best, Clint McKie

Hi Tom, One of the things that fascinates me is that a homes plumbing is actually pretty crude. With leaks so common and water doing billions a year in damage, I wonder when the entire plumbing system of a home will be redesigned in a completely contained system that can not leak.

I realize that this is just temporary until the new cabinets were to be installed but the counter will likely need to be removed anyway. the new cabinets wont fit into the space without removing the tile flooring. Maybe a temporary brace would be a short term solution.

A temporary brace would surely be the answer to avoiding further disaster, Tom. Good post.
