Cedarville Road - Caution

As a Realtor covering homes sales in Plymouth and surrounding towns including Cape Cod, I get a first hand look at many roadways and backroads.  I also live in Cedarville and regularly make use of less traveled roads to avoid traffic and save travel time.  Over the past year Plymouth Department of Public Works (DPW) has been actively planning/working on the Carters Bridge Road Project which is off Exit 2 on RT 3 and heading west on Long Pond Rd.  Where the road forks going around Great Herring Pond is Carter's Bridge and Carter's Bridge Road.

The project is designed to control the water and flooding during severe weather that covers a large portion of the roadway making it difficult to drive.  I think I speak for all in the area and applaud the DPW for taking on this project.  That's the good news.

The bad news is my car is taking a beating in the process.  At the very least drivers should be aware that the latest work has left a gap in the asphalt about 20 yards wide on Carter's Bridge Road just past the fork and if you don't see the orange barrels in time the pot holes may reek havoc on your suspension system and in my case required a wheel alignment after hitting a particularly deep hole on the east bound side of the road.

I now know to slow to almost a crawl, but be especially diligent after a rain storm where the dirt can wash out and create multiple deep holes in the exposed dirt road. (UPDATE-This has been repaired)

I'm certain this will be resurfaced soon, or at least I hope so.  And I also hope DPW will fix the uneven transition on the road repair at Tanager and Long Pond Road.  And while I'm blogging about this, let me ask DPW to resurface the road from Upland Road to the beginning of Little Sandy Pond Rd. heading west to Atlantic CC.  This roadway is sorely in need of new asphalt and the heavy traffic using this road warrants the work.  It is in terrible shape and full of patches and uneven bumps that make navigating the narrow road a bit of a challenge.

I suspect the town budget is tight given our economic times and many projects are vying for town dollars. I know the roads have been questioned at times by several of my clients and affected the sale of homes in this part of Cedarville.  I look forward to the progress on the roadway.  Now if the illegal parking off the side of the road can be addressed as well...

I guess travel has to get worse before it gets better John.

Hey Conrad.  Yeah I put this out there to see if the community could keep pressure on the town to finish and correct what they started.  They tend to be slow and sloppy.
