Five easy ways to protect your Florida home from burglars.  Unfortunately, most homeowners do not think about a burglary protection until it is too late.  We in the business like to call this being reactive, when in fact, every homeowner should be proactive in protecting themselves.  Besides, all of these steps will help trim your homeowner's insursance costs. So, without further ado;

1. Security system.  This one is a no-brainer, but I have found that even though a lot of people have them they don't have the system monitored.  This will certainly keep out most burglars or at least deter them from entering.

2. Slider door safety bar.  Again, another no-brainer.  Most people just use a broom stick, but you can buy these relatively cheap at any hardware store and they last forever.  Any burglar who sees one of these in the slider will not attempt to enter because he knows he will have to break the glass, which will make a lot of noise.

3. Double bolt sliding door lock.  This one not a no-brainer.  I ran across these recently and found that they are amazing at keeping burglars from prying open a slider door.  Well worth the money and fairly inexpensive.  Have a locksmith install it for you.

4. Deadbolt key locks on all doors.  The difference between these and regular deadbolt locks is that with these a burglar cannot just break a glass pane and turn the lock knob to get in.  You have to have a key.  You have probably seen this type of break in in movies many times, but a simple change like this will eliminate it completely.

5. Outdoor Automatic flood lights.  Most homeowners have lights, but not floods. These are high powered and super concentrated.  Install them on each corner of your home with an automatic timer and you won't have to worry about high electric bills, which is why most people probably don't have them.  I have seen them a lot over garage doors because homeowners want a light to come on when they get home, but burglars do not enter from the front, they enter from the back or dark corners.
