Addison Pacesetters (Addison, Texas residents 50+ years of age) meet the first Wednesday of each month at Dunn Bros. on Belt Line Road and learn about the Town of Addison. This month, we had two presentations at the monthly gathering. First up was Carrie Rice and Levi, followed by Neil Gayden from the Health Department.
Communications and Marketing Director Carrie Rice introduced the new CodeRED emergency notification system that will replace the Reverse 911 alert system. If you are currently signed up for the Reverse911 system, you will have to re-register for CodeRED. It is a geo-targeted system that provides the most current, up-to-date weather alerts or other emergency notifications (including West Nile spraying) and more. Be on the lookout in the mail, through social media, and in the weekly newsletter to learn how you can register for this important FREE emergency alert system.
There will be a snail mail brochure delivered about CodeRED and the bottom portion of the mailout will contain information that we used to have in the annual Addison calendar: phone numbers and contact information for city departments.
The rollout begins August 16th. There will be computers set up at the Addison Athletic Club and someone to assist you if you need help with the signup process. CodeRED will be specific to Addison, so if there is bad weather in the southern part of the county, we will not be disturbed unless it is headed our way. You can elect to receive the emergency alerts via text, email, or phone message.
Neil Gayden from the Addison Health Deparment was up next. He told us that Addison is doing weekly testing of mosquitos on Wednesday nights to check for West Nile Virus. So far, there have been 25-30 cases in Dallas County, and the highest concentrations are in the south west. There have been no positive results on the mosquitos tested in Addison so far. The Town of Addison is ready to spray, but won't, unless a trapped mosquito tests positive. Fogging will be used as a last resort. There are more mosquitos in general on the west side of Addison than the east side, probably due to the higher number of French drains.
Next month, the first Wednesday is September 4th. Come out and join the Addison Pacesetters at Dunn Bros. and learn about the town of Addison. The speakers begin their presentations at 10:30 am. Come early, grab a cup of coffee. The Mayor holds court at 10:00 am, so if you have questions about Addison, that's a good time to get answers. See you next month with the Addison Pacesetters at Dunn Bros.
