How Do You Shop For Cars/Shoes/Dresses?

By

Most of us have a distinct style for how we shop for things, whether those things are cars, shoes, a new dress .....or a new house.

Some people like to do lots and lots of online research, carefully comparing, educating themselves, reading reviews etc.  Once these folks actually hit the car lot, shopping mall - or home listings, they have done so much prep work that the shopping is often relatively quick and easy.  They already know what the price range is for the item they want, they know what is available to purchase and where to find it, they have thought through many of the details about exactly what the item must have to suit there needs.

Other people kind of figure out what it is they want by the actual process of shopping.  Maybe they will visit car lots for every different manufacturer and test drive a dozen different cars; maybe they spend a full day at the shoe stores at the mall, trying on dozens of pairs of shoes in different shops.  They will (hopefully) still reach the point where they feel like they have enough information to make a decision and a choice - and buy.

Which kind of shopper are you?  When it comes to shopping for a house to buy, either style can work.  But if you feel like you really can't choose a new dress until you have tried on every single one in town that comes in your size, know there is one difference in house shopping.  If you take a long time to decide on a dress, there is a very good chance that first one you tried on will still be there two weeks later when you decide to buy it.

But with a house, in many of our current markets, if you take too long a time to look, compare, ponder, look some more - well, when you decide that the house you saw last Tuesday is THE one.....your agent may give you the bad news that it went under contract to another buyer last Wednesday.

So, certainly do your comparison shopping and research to feel comfortable in making a decision - but then MAKE that decision!

Thanks Lottie. It is such a fine balance - buyers rightfully want to "shop" enough to be certain they've found the best house, but too much time continuing to shop can mean THE ONE just became someone else's home.
