Are you on Wikipedia?
Do you use the Wikipedia site? I often do just as Jon does and when reseraching a topic click on Wikipedia first as they have a lot of really good information on so many different topics. I think Jon is right. Wikipedia is asking everyone to contribute $3.00 dollars so that can continue to operate. $3.00 well spent. I will follow Jon's lead and do as he did and contribute. Spreading the word - how about you?
Now that Internet replace any other search in speed and efficiency, the question often is the reliability of the information.
That's why when the search results pop up, I try to see if there are sources that I already know, and if I see Wikipedia, I click the link.
Yes, it is an incredible place, and it is because of all contributors, who tirelessly working on making this free resource available for everybody.
Isn't it fascinating, that in the era of mercantilism, where money often overshadows spirit, so many people put time and effort into writing for free? The collaborative effort behind Wikipedia is absolutely fascinating. And it is a great promise for the future. People from all over the world can work together in a constructive way...
I have contributed a few times, but, of course, I have used it extensively, both in English and in Russian, and I am glad that a free encyclopedia like this exists.
Yesterday I was double checking the dates and events for my blog, and there was a pop up. The site needs donations to be able to operate. They said that if every user would pay $3, they would have enough money to run for a year.
Wow! $3 to have a resource like that. But I know that there is usually a gap between the number of users and the number of donors, so I paid for 10 users.
I want it to be there for us. And $30 is money well spent.
