Is this Neighborhood Safe? Use the Sugar Land Online Crime Tool

By
Real Estate Agent with Serving Sugar Land, Richmond, Rosenberg, Missouri City 620741

The City of Sugar Land is a beautiful, diverse community and is ranked the safest city in Texas and the 12th safest city in the nation, based on an analysis of FBI crime statistics in City Crime Rankings 2011-2012, published by CQ Press.

Sugar Land, TX - www.richmondtxhomesales.com

This distinction can be accredited to the Sugar Land Police Department's crime prevention programs and partnerships with residents and local businesses to increase safety and improve the quality of life for residents.

However, no city is completely immune from crime.  One of the most frequently asked questions that I get from buyers is, "Is this neighborhood safe?"

As realtors, we can't answer that question. However, we can provide resources so buyers can answer that question for themselves. One suggestion is to drive through the neighborhood during different times of the day to monitor activity and chat with residents to get their input.

Sugar Land Police Department's "Daily Crime Report"

However, there's an even more convenient way for current and future residents to access crime reports for specific subdivisions in Sugar Land.  It is called the "Daily Crime Report" and it is available on the City's website at http://crimemap.sugarlandtx.gov/.

Simply click on a Sugar Land subdivision from the drop down menu, choose a date range, and select the crime categories. Residents can also sign up for Daily Crime Reports to be e-mailed to them.

These tools are a great resource for home buyers unfamiliar with a particular area that are looking to purchase a home.  They are constantly updated and the crime maps are a plus!

Rosie, "Is this Neighborhood Safe?" is a question with wrestle with on almost a daily basis.  What's safe to one person may mean something totally different to another and giving your clients the options that you have is probably their best course of action.  I like the "Daily Crime Report" service provided by the Sugar Land TX Police Dept.

As Nick says, we get that question all the time, so it is good to be able to direct people to a site that can answer it.

This is a terrific resource for all those who ask the questions about safety, which of course we cannot answer. I have used crimemapping.com as well.

Rosie, here the Washington Post has the information on its web site.  And I noticed a cluster in an amazing neighborhood popular with families with small children.  Turned out it was a senior housing facility.  Wonder what those old geezers were up to?

Thanks for all your comments.  I need to see if other cities utilize a similar "daily crime report" on their websites.  Jeff, I'll check out crimemapping.com.

Great link! thanks for sharing.

I disclosure to the buyer my own personal knowledge of any criminal activity of which i'm aware. Perceptions of crime can e quite different from one person to another, and merely answering that a neighborhood is or isn't safe is going to depend on a personal opinion. The best way to check the safety of that location: to provide a client with s source of the information so they verify it by themselves.
