Life Without a Palm? Can it Be?

old palmAbout a week ago, my trusty cell phone, which is/was also my life in my  purse, decided it was thirsty and jumped right out of my purse into a glass of orange juice.  I was driving and I noticed what was happening as it happened but there was nothing I could do!  I knew immediately it had died a quick, instant, non-painful death by drowning.  I pulled over to the side of the road and tried giving it CPR to no avail.  I was devastated...how would I survive without it?  It had been part of my life for years.

I took it to my nearby Sprint store to see if they could revive it but, alas, there was nothing they could do.  Fortunately I had the foresight to purchase insurance on it...but I would be without a cell phone for 7-10 days...while it was in the hospital and there was absolutely no way that the info stored on this one could be salvaged.  I didn't know what to do, I could not imagine life without Palm.

OJAfter much thought, consideration, and looking I decided to bite the bullet and get a new one.  I had to quickly change my plans for the day (showing homes) as my e-key was my Palm.  Thank God I had written my client's phone # down on their file folder, which I had with me.  I spent the better part of the day shopping for a new cell phone...I finally ended up back at Sprint (although I had sworn I'd never use them again because their service stinks)...and bought the "Centro"...a "wanna-be-Palm"....it's a cool little cell phone...much lighter than my Palm and works the same as the Palm with a few more gadgets.  It's also compatible with my supra key...which is a huge plus....I had supra on the old one, it was required (in my eyes) on the new one.  I spent the better part of the following day talking to the people at Supra to get it working on the new cell phone and then talking to the MLS dept and tech service to get the MLXwireless working (that's another story on centroits own).

Anyway I'm now up and running...I've still got the old Palm which I have to send in with my $50 deductible.  Anyone know how I can erase all the info from it before I send it in?  Remember I can't get it to turn on.

I wish I could help you on the erasing of things, but I can't! I'm so sorry to hear about the death of the trusty palm! Hope you end up being happy with your new one and it is everything you need it to be.

There's a "hard reset" but... alas... I think it requires power.

Ummm... there should be a way - you might wait a couple days - I did something similar once and it actually started working again - but not for long - then you could do a master reset

I'm not familiar at all with Palm.  I know my PDA went down for about three weeks and I thought I was goinig to pass out.  Didnt realize how much I depended on it until I had a problem.  :(

Mary I certainly understand your situation.  My service guy hooked my 650 treo to his computer after I dropped it the screen was blank. It was scary. He download all my info to my new 700 treo. I am going to start doing my hotsyncing too. I better make a habit of duplicating all my info in my daytimer based on your unexpected loss. I will talk to my service guy to see if he has any input and get back to you.
