I just graduated from Kansas State University in December of 2007.  Majored in Management and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. It was one of the most liberating feelings, yet one of the scariest feelings in my life!  It feels so good to be done with school and have my whole life ahead of me with no set direction to go or follow.  No direction is the scary part.  I have not found my calling yet, but I keep looking. I just got my Kansas Real Estate License and joined Platinum Realty in Overland Park, KS.  I am excited about this new endeavor in my life and can't wait to sell some houses!  Since I'm new I would love any advice, suggestions and recommendations on getting started, finding leads, marketing, lenders, inspectors, mortgage brokers, staging, networking, and any groups or associations to join.

My Story:

I got my first glimpse of real estate my sophomore year of college.  My Dad is very entrepreneurial.  He has tried his hand at many different things and each new thing he tries involves a new business endeavor.  This time his new endeavor turned out to be real estate investing.  He read a few books and decided to go to a seminar. Then he signed up for a training program and before I knew it he was buying houses like crazy!  One of the books he read was called Rich Dad Poor Dad written by Robert Kiyosaki.  He suggested that I read the book, but I really wasn't interested.  Then I ended up getting the book for Christmas!  My sister and I both received the book for Christmas and were not all that thrilled about it.  I (unlike my sister) decided to sit down and read the book.  I read the first few chapters and thought, well this is kind of interesting and put the book down and didn't read it again.  A couple months went by and I came across the book again.  I started reading it again and read it from cover to cover.  After reading the book I became somewhat inspired and my way of thinking changed. Since then I have been reading all kinds of books about real estate investing and personal development.  I find the subject very interesting.  What I love about real estate, and especially investing, is that you are helping the community.  You are taking a house that is absolutely hideous and transforming it into something that someone can actually live in.  It helps the communinty by making it a safer place for the people who live there and a place for someone else to live who might not be able to afford a place to live otherwise (low income areas). I also love the fact that it is completely driven by YOU!  If you aren't working toward a goal, nothing will happen. Its up to you to get the wheels turning. It's a hard job, but if its something you love and can stick with it to the end the rewards are unbelieveable!
