Wow, How Time Flies!

Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

It's been a while since I have blogged.  A lot has happened in the past few weeks.  I went to this amazing class in Plano in the middle of January.  If there was one Aha that I got was that most new realtors do not make it in this type of market past two years.  If you weren't already an established realtor before it became a buyer's market, then you might not make it.  I will say that I had a great first year.  I did very well, but sometimes life throws you some challenges and you must re-work your goals.

I have joined The Green Team in my office.  It has really taken a lot of pressure off my shoulders.  I am able to focus on buyers.  I am able to put all my energy into giving great customer service to assisting my clients with finding a great home at a great price.

I must admit...I really was apprehensive in joining a team.  So many things ran through my head.  Will I loose my identity?  What will it be like working for someone after I have only been working for myself?  What if I don't pull my weight?  What about my schedule...will it be in someone else's hands?  Will I be micro-managed?

I know...you are thinking, STOP thinking so much April.

You know what...sometimes you have to just trust your gut and make a change.  You have to have faith and believe that things work the way they do for a reason.

I can honestly tell you that I made the best decision for me and my family at this time.  Eventhough you might know someone one way, you don't know how it will be working WITH them, not for them.  That was one lesson I learned pretty quickly.

A "TEAM" is just that, a team.  It is great to be able to feed off the incredible energy that is in the office everyday.  There are no egos, there are no anything.  There is just professionals working together to make clients satisfied and happy with our services.

It is great to be able to come to the table with your own ideas.  Some days they might be liked, and others they may not be...but at the end of the day, I wasn't shot down.  I am able to rely on other realtors expertise in all aspects of real estate and also contribute when they need help.

Honestly, the whole team thing isn't just because I joined a team.  It is like that in my office period.  Everyone always helps everyone.  I think it is the culture that we have.  We are very much like a family.  We are joyful when our fellow realtors acheive and we feel sorrow when our realtors have a tough time.

April, I left a team years ago because all the listings went under the name of the lead agent.

all the listings do go under the lead agent.  that is the part of give and take.  i am a high "d" and i'm very driven.  that was one of the concerns that i had.  however, i can bring listings to the team, and at the same time i get quality leads for buyers.  you really have to think about who's team you are going to join.  i am not blind to the things that can bring me down as a buyers agent, however, i have learned that if you just communicate things are much easier.  most situations can be worked out so that it will be a win-win for everyone.

i feel i am lucky in the sense that the realtors in my area met me when i was on my own.  they know who i am and they know how i work.  my lead agent really pushes the team concept and she has no problem with me being my own person and keeping my own identity.

Great read.  Best of luck April.  I am young to field like you by a year and a half.  And I have pondered this team question before.  I worry about the carrying your weight issue so I have held back... again good luck.  I like to hear feedback from you again in 6 months to see where you are again on this change.  It could be helpful to me and others that are on the fence.

i have been in the business since oct. 2006.  i sold 1.6 million my first year.  i don't think that is too bad.  i didn't grow up in the area i live now, so i found that i was spending a lot of money trying to brand myself and advertise.  i finally had to think about what was more important...being able to stay a realtor and do what i love or having to go and find a 9-5.

shelley and i have the same work ethic.  there are times i go 3 weeks without a day off, but there is a lot to show for it.  i love the work and i love the people that i meet.  give or take a few.  ha.  i just can't see myself working 9-5 again and just going through the motions.  at least with real estate, every single day is different.

i just had a thought....

as a buyer's agent you can't just sit back and get calls to go and show.  you have to prospect for buyers and sellers.  you have to be bringing something to the team.  you can't just take.  with any great leader...when they win, you win.

i guess it is easy for me to say this because i have been on my own and seen how much work...and money it really takes to make it in this business.  someone once told me that you will either love real estate or you won't.  and when you love it, you live it.  i guess that is what do.
