Your Blog - Is it Unwritten?

By
Education & Training with Retired Executive Director of Education at eXp Non-Licensed

I have heard in my online travels that writers, authors and even Bloggers can get writers block. I have also noticed that thousands of Bloggers have joined us here in the "Rain" and have not written their first post. Can I ask why you joined? Was it to try and gain knowledge about the industry? Was it because of a compulsive (must join) behavior you might have? Maybe you are just afraid of what people will think when you write, so you're holding back and keeping your Blog Unwritten.

Here's a video that addresses those writers and bloggers who either have a block, or are just afraid to write for fear of others opinions. I have included the words on this post. I wanted to see if I could inspire other writers to "dive into the rain" and get beyond their inhibitions or fears. There is always something to write about or an experience to share. In Blogging, it's ok to learn from your mistakes, it's the only way you can grow. Take a look at any Blogger here, and view their very first post. Then read their most recent, and you will see exactly what I am talking about.

UNWRITTEN

Verse:
"I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined. I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned. Staring at the blank page before you, Open up the dirty window, Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find. Reaching for something in the distance, So close you can almost taste it, Release your inhibitions...

Chorus:
Feel the rain on your skin, No one else can feel it for you, Only you can let it in, No one else, no one else can speak the words on your lips, Drench yourself in words unspoken, Live your life with arms wide open, Today is where your book Blog begins , The rest is still unwritten...

Verse:
I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines. We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way. Staring at the blank page before you, Open up the dirty window, Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find. Reaching for something in the distance, So close you can almost taste it, Release your inhibitions...

A special thanks to Natasha Bedingfield for performing and inspiring others with this song. It's not easy to take that first step, but writing generates comments, comments create thoughts and generate discussions, and discussions create ideas for writing about. It comes full circle, but you just have to start! Your Blog needs YOU. I think this song and the words might just give you the push you need to go to the next level. Not everyone is meant to write. Not everyone is an author or a can be a Blogger, but unless you begin, the rest will be unwritten...

Brad-

Thanks for the post and the encouragement to the newbies.

I know that the first time I posted and started getting comments, I felt a little, well, wierd!, that people were stating opinons on what little ol' me had written.

I got over it!  :)

Live good. Be happy.

Mimi - I remember that feeling when too, but I got excited knowing someone had read my post and actually liked it enough to take the time and comment.  Now I'll never be the same!  LOL!~

Hi Brad! I'm behind on my reading... and weird you wrote about this (and songed :)  with the blog I just wrote. (Nothing as fancy as yours, of course)

I do find myself with writer's block when I say "I wanna blog" then try to think of a topic. Doesn't work for me.

Thanks ;)

Hi Brad- Great Post. I WAS one of those. Joined in August last year and did nothing but sit on it. Then bam, last week I posted My First Blog. Now Active Rain is part of my daily routine and the list of potential blogs is growing. Once you start it can become addictive in a good sort of way. Thanks for all your insight and great blogs

Brad, it took me months to write a blog. For weeks I read blogs and felt there was nothing for me to contribute. I basically used Active Rain to learning tool. There was no office training that compared to AR in such a large range of subjects specially tech.

For me personally, I thank you, because I've used your (and many other Active Rainers) posts as a guide to conduct business.

Martha - great to see you diving into it, just keep writing and everything else just seems to fall into place.  Like anything, you will have peaks and valleys, but just keep writing!

Maria -there are many great and useful tools here on AR, I too have snooped and learned a lot.  Once you start writing, you find that you are unique, styles are unique, and what you have to say is unique no matter how many times its already been said.  I learned that here too! LOL!~  :-)

Brad, Great words of encouragment to many newbies such as myself and dancing in the rain has always caused people to stop and wish they had the guts to dance in the rain. With a sometimes different sense of humor I hope folks can take the time to laugh because life is too short and we have to laugh at ourselves and sometimes at each other. Thanks.

Brad, Thanks for that post.  I will be posting more in the future.  Just grasping all the excellent information here in Active Rain and other sources.  So much valuable information and creative people I can learn from that I just need to dedicate some some time to posting..

Brad,

Like most business 20% of the people post 80% of the numbers.  I have been with AR only a very short time, and I LOVE the format.  I think the folks that are out there are holing back on the postings because they are afraid the content they are going to post is off topic or not important.  Whereas they should post what ever is best for the community.  For petes sake I posted something the other day that happened to me, but I thought it was too funny so the community needed to see it... KEEP posting - Knowledge is power.

Steve - that's how it works around here. Read a few...write a few....then read a few more.  It's a vicious yet rewarding cycle. LOL!~   :-)

I still believe the best resource for content to write about is sitting in the sent folder of your email sent box.  Everything you know, your experience, your responses, your knowledge is just sitting there to be shared with the world.  There's enough content there to last you 2 lifetimes, Don't let your Blog go unwritten....    :-)
