Is a real estate open house really going to sell my house?

Over the past 13 years while selling homes in Hendrick Counrty Indiana, many homeowner's ask, "should we have an open house?"  You may ask ten different real estate professionals and get ten different opinions...

The truth is that less that 1% of all home sales across the country are a direct result of an open house effort.  This statistic is gathered from The National Association of Realtors. (NAR)

Open houses are great for realtors to network with neighbors and potentional buyers to drive their business, but chances are slim that your property will sell simply by someone dropping by on a random Sunday afternoon.

Other market places across the country might have higher odds, but as a whole, open houses are not the key.  To find out what is the key to selling your home in a challenging real estate market, visit www.chriscastetter.com

Hey Chris -

Good to see you here! I did "once" sell a home at an open house - must have been that 1% chance:) You have succinctly stated the obvious facts - open houses do not sell homes! I hear the same thing from Realtors around the country. With so much information available via the internet, buyers just do not go out on a Sunday afternoon to look at open houses - not like the "old days" in real estate.

Chris, I would suggest that they have their home staged so that the 80%+ of todays home buyers looking on the Internet will see photos of a home they want to tour.
