north kihei maui beachesKIHEI BEACH PARKS ON MAUI          KIHEI GOOGLE MAP

Along the 6 mile stretch of South Kihei Road, on Maui's sunny south shore, there are a number of small and large beach parks.  Here's what you can expect to find as you drive from the north end to the south end:

Ma Poina Oe Lau Beach Park - also known as Kihei Pavilion, or Ohukai, it's located at the foot of Ohukai Street.  This beach is popular with windsurfers when the wind is blowing "kona".  It's a narrow strip of sand, with some shady kiawe trees and a concrete pavilion.

Hawaii Islands Humpback Whale Sanctuary - is jointly managed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the State of Hawaii, Department of Land and Natural Resources.  The sanctuary is renovating existing facilities, building a new multi-purpose building on site and removing the existing storage sheds.  The month of February is peak humpback whale season so it's the perfect time to get outside and spot humpback whales.  Come on by and explore the Sanctuary and discover Hawaii's special marine life.  At the foot of Kaonoulu Street.

kalama beach park - kihei maui

Kalepolepo Beach Park - next to the Whale Sanctuary and across the road from The Villas at Kenolio is a small shady park.  Close to north Kihei condos like Menehune Shores, Koa Lagoon, Village by the Sea, Kihei Bay Vista, and Kihei Bay Surf.  It's easy to miss this 1.5 acre park, with parking space for only 9 cars.  There is a shower and portable potties.

Kalama Beach Park - located in mid Kihei, this 36 acre park has everything.  The beach itself is small, but the park provides excellent facilities for picnicking and family outings... tables and barbecue grills, showers and restrooms, telephones, grassy areas and spacr for volleyball, basketball, baseball, soccer and tennis.

Cove Park - next to Kalama Park and very popular with the beginner surfers.  It's just a half acre, with a small boat ramp.  There is a nice surf break right in front of the park, and you can take surfing lessons here.

Charlie Young Park - is a little harder to access, with only a few parking spots.  No public restrooms, and only 1 shower.  This is a long stretch of sandy beach though, and the park is 5 acres.

kamaole beach park 1 - kihei maui

Kamaole Beach Park I - 3 acres with a beach volleyball net, picnic tables and grills, restrooms and outdoor showers.  There's a lifeguard on duty at this sandy swimming beach.  Off street parking for 18 cars.  Located at the foot of Ke Alii Alanui, with an ABC store across the street so you can pick up supplies like sunscreen and cold drinks.

Kamaole Beach Park II - the smallest of the Kamaole parks, and no off street parking provided.  Nice sandy beach with a lifeguard station/police substation at one end.  Tables and grills.  Close to condos such as: Kihei Alii Kai, Kihei Akahi, and the oceanfront Royal Mauiian condo building.

Kamaole Beach Park III - 10 acres with lots of green space and shady picnic areas.  Plenty of tables and grills, and loads of parking.  This is a favorite spot for family get togethers and you'll often see tents set up, or bouncy castles on the weekends.  Definitely my favorite Kihei beach park.  Across the street from the popular resort condos of Kamaole Sands, Hale Kamaole, and Maui Park Shore.

Kihei Small Boat Ramp - paved access to a rocky/sandy shoreline with plenty of parking.  Hoses for cleaning off the boats, showers, telephone.  The boat ramp is protected with a jetty for safe access for boats of all sizes.  Directly across from the entrance to the Mau Kamaole vacation condos.

kamaole 2 beach park - kihei maui

South of here you'll find even more beaches, in the Wailea and Makena areas.  Bigger and better beaches!  But that's another post for another day.

If you're thinking of buying a vacation condo on Maui, there are a lot of choices.... oceanfront, beachfront, hi-rise or low-rise, old or new.  Let me help you decide which one is best for your needs.

Hi Sally - these are just the ones in Kihei - still more to come for other areas!  Not enough time in my life to blog all I would like to.  Like you I get carried away and can't just make it short and sweet.

Mary - Kihei is a major destination for snowbirds from Canada and other parts.

Hello Georgina!

WOW!  Wonderful Blogs....I found you through the newbie group and started viewing your Blogs...I was wondering how I was going to start writing about my local towns...I have take the photo's and added them to Localism...now I just need to write the Blogs and I was not sure how I was going to do it.  But, your technique seems to make it easy.  Question for you, do you also add the photo's to the areas withing localism?

Hi Moriah!  I'm glad I can be of inspiration to you.... when I started I had the same experience.  Not quite sure I understand your question...sometimes I'll add the photos to the area within Localism on the day I get them. ... then come back and blog about it later.  Of course you will have to upload the pics again when you post...and I sometimes make them smaller so they load faster the 2nd time around.  Does that help?  If you have an area or neighborhood that's not in Localism, you can create one when you go to add the pics.
