Staging the Perceived "Wasted Spaces"

By
Home Stager with Staging Seattle, King & Snohomish Counties

The phrase "seeing is believing" is true when it comes to staging a home for sale.  Showing the function of a room to potential buyers is important, but so is creating an atmosphere of relaxation.

From the "before" picture, would you have believed that this room is a great place to entertain?  After staging, it's a great party room or a nice spot for some solitude away from the main living spaces.  This room could have been perceived as wasted space, but after staging it's viewed as a wonderful addition to this home.  AHHH!  Soak your troubles away!!!

Beautifully done - as a potential buyer, you've gotten me to think about what a GREAT RETREAT this space would be at the end of a hectic day!

Your staging turned the wasted space into a dramatic space.  What a selling feature as who wouldn't want that room.

Thank you to everyone who has stopped by to view this post and take time to comment.

Cindy - We are fortunate to have my brother-in-law, who is a real estate agent, take all of our photos for us.  He used a tripod and a wide angle lens.  He's able to get shots that I just can't get with my digital "point and shoot" camera.

Diana, I love all the greenery you used in this space and the table you put against one wall.  I never would have though of that.  I wish this space was attached to my home.  Betty

I remember being on a tour of homes last year, following a family from room to room. The upstairs bedroom was "L" shaped and I could just imagine a bed in one corner and a desk or reading area in another - or - even more fun - a bed in the top of the "L" with curtains pulled back to reveal a great, cozy teen girl's space that could be closed off for privacy.

It was then that the husband in front of me turned to his wife and said, "this is kind of an odd-shaped room. Sure a lot of wasted space."

Talk about "they only know what they see...."

Betty and Lisa - Glad you liked the space!  The greenery does help bring the"outdoors in".

Janis - So true - you really have to show people how the space can be used.  I'll bet you were so wanting to stage that "L" shaped bedroom!  Your idea sounds great.

Before: a cold space. After: an inviting, entertainment area,... adding extra value to the house listing. Congratulations on a "great room".

Diana, was this home an empty stage or were the sellers living there? It looks really great, I love the side board!

Hi Everyone,  This home was vacant when we staged it (to answer Emily's question) and it sold a few weeks ago.  I agree that the greenery really added a lot of "life" to the room.  Who knows, maybe the new owners are hosting a party in this space right now!
