That was the message that some local residents in Kissimmee receive in a letter from the FDOT.  Well, why did they receive such a letter?

PictureThe department of transportation and the federal transit administration held a public hearing at the Kissimmee Civic Center in which they discuss the plans for the $646 million commuter rail system that is slated to run from Deland south to downtown Orlando, and then on to Kissimmee and Poinciana.  This rail system is also slated to reach the Four Corners by 2012.

This somewhat positive news comes at a cost to local residents - more than 7,000 who lived near the proposed 61-mile rail route.

FDOT officials pointed out however, that only a handful of residents living near the tracks will have to sell their homes to FDOT.  They pointed out that the letters sent out was part of the requirement to anyone who live at least 300 feet from the tract.  FDOT officials further mention that the ones who will need to sell their properties to FDOT does not live in Osceola County.

There are 13 homes and 13 businesses within Orange County that will need to sell their properties.  This was a sigh of relief for the residents of Osceola County who thought they would have to lose their homes and businesses that were close to the tracks.

Officials also mention too that they will be using the existing CSX tracks.
