Keep Your Website Updated

By
Real Estate Agent

I just was looking at several stagers websites, and I couldn't help but notice that one site had a "What's New" section on the home page.  The two entries that are there appear to be from early 2005.

Here is some completely free, unsolicited advice from someone who is looking for top quality stagers in my area:

  • By including a "what's new" feature you are telling prospective clients that you are "on top of" things and well-informed about new trends.  This is a good thing.
  • The drawback to this is that if it is not updated regularly, the public perception shifts to a negative one.  They think that if you neglect to keep your website up to date, what might she neglect when staging my house.

The simple fix:  remove the "what's new" section.

The medium fix:  update the section quarterly, at least.

The full fix:  import the RSS feed from your Active Rain blog, so that whenever you publish a new public blog, the feed, or a link to it will appear on your web page.

You're so right.  This is a lesson I learned years ago when I tool through a web page and see stats that are

a year old.  UGH.  But, it happens.

Very good idea Rick. I manage my site myself. I have kept it simple so the average person doesn't get intimidated but am in the process of developing a new site for the professionals. I have yet to upload RSS feeds, podcasts, etc. I have volumes of information and how-to's ready and waiting but get stuck in the process every time. Can you explain step by step how to upload an RSS feed for me and others? Much appreciated.

I am not yet up on the technical aspects of webdesign and RSS feeds and such.  If you have questions about it, I suggest you search the AR blogs for "RSS" and read up on it.

What is RSS and how does it help me? might be a good place to start reading up on the whole RSS piece of the puzzle that is website construction.
