Bristol Borough Council supports historic scenic byway project which would
connect about towns from Easton, PA to Bristol, PA. This week, the council sent
a letter showing their support for the project. At the end of January, 39 letters
of support were still needed from local munipalities, before they could even
submit an application to Penndot.
The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor Commission and the Heritage
Conservancy would like to create a series of roads from town to town, which
would create the scenic byway. Landmark Towns of Bucks County, is a program
consisting of local businesses, officials, and community members would like
to brand the waterfront towns of Bristol, Morrisville, Yardley and New Hope
as tourist destinations.
This is the only the beginning stage, and there isn't even a proposed route
for this project.
The state scenic byway program is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation's
Federal Highway Administration program and recognizes select roads for cultural,
archaeological, historic, natural, recreational and scenic qualities. The designation
could bring federal funding, economic development, preservation, community development
and tourism.
What do you think? Do you think it is even worth it to have a scenic byway?
Is it financially responsible? What sorts of problems do you see arising from
this sort of project?
I would love to hear the opinions of local residents on this topic.

This is in part why I have to relocate. Neither Landmark Towns Regional Main Street Coordinator Donna Boone, Congressman Patrick Murphy & the Bristol Borough Council have been into my shop which has been a fixture on Mill Street for the past 4 years. They are all located within a few block radius of my shop located in the business district of Bristol Borough. No one has approached me to see what they can do for me let alone talk with me in reference to me leaving Mill Street. This is the worst I have seen Mill Street in the past 4 years with numerous shops leaving mill Street. Thank God the shops leaving are being replaced with tattoo parlors, we now have 3 parlors in a 2 block radius.
No one seems to get it. The major issue for the revitalization of Mill Street was the removal of trees not soliciting new businesses. I did not want to leave but am forced to leave. Mill Street has become one of the too many business districts that have rapidly deteriorated. Instead of the people in charge doing something about the revitalization they continue to get press in the newspapers on how many committees they are on and how they are feverishly working for the borough residents & businesses.
