BAH for Camp Lejeune NC Military Families

living in Onslow County NC Military families who are eligible and choose to live off base are provided with BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing).

This is a tax free allowance which is a valuable portion of military personnel’s benefit package.

According to a recent report from the Department of Defense, BAH has just been raised to help families with their housing expense. This is definitely good news for military families as prices of fuel and food continue to rise.

Several factors are taken into consideration and used in the equation for the BAH but basically the allowance is determined by:

E, W or O class

Assigned location
National and/or regional housing costs – (residential vacancies are also taken into consideration)
Number of dependents

For Camp LeJeune Marine Base and New River Air Station in Onslow County, North Carolina …

E-1 now receive $848.00 per month
O-7 receives $1472.00 per month

With today’s rates a military family buying a $150,000 home in Onslow County, North Carolina and a 5% down home in Onslow County NC payment, the monthly payment would be approximately $975/month.

These rates and monthly payments make home ownership a realistic goal for military families relocating to Camp LeJeune Marine Base and New River Air Station in Jacksonville, N C.

Cynthia- nice to know that the allowance has actually raised. When I was in the Military it wasn't very much money, but it helped :)

My sister's husband was 22 years in the military and she use to use this language. I was getting use to it. It is good to know since you live near the base.

Cynthia... nice little piece on BAH.. I know when I was in in 1986, they didn't give much at all. You definitely couldn't live on their pay. In any case, nice layout here for those in the military understand that it might be a good opportunity for them to buy. Especially when the VA makes it easy with the loan programs.

Cynthia...you are certainly positioning yourself as a valuable resource in your area!

Cynthia - My wife & I lived in your area for about 8 yrs and absolutely miss Onslow County! Great job with the BAH post & it's amazing to see the rates rise. Are seminars working well in the area?

Great post. The really great thing is that with a VA loan, the 5% down is not even required. VA is a 100% financing program for vets and is a great program.
