Stop YELLING at me!!!

By
Real Estate Agent with Connect Realty.com

So I just had to write this blog, even though I was done for the day and about to go outside and work in my yard...and throw an open house sign up on my listing next door....(yes, very convenient!)

Have you been sitting at your desk, searching AR or other things on the Internet and you click on a link...you are in your quite room, with your mind on what your are doing...I think they call this focus..but that is an f word..don't like it too much.

Anyway, you click on a link and the darn site starts yelling at you...talking to you about what is on the site...I hate it.  I am trying to find a link on their site to get more info, and this voice is distracting me...adding noise to my head.

If I want to "hear" what you have to say, put it in one of those great video boxes and I will click play...and I often do...but as soon as some one starts chatting at me, when I am not ready...I hit the big X in the right hand corner of the page....gone....silence is back....ahhhhh..

I think it invasive, unthoughtful and doesn't flow with permission marketing...I didn't give you permission to start talking to me...I gave you permission to post your info on the web, and I will read it, or listen to it if I want to.  Boy, this sounds like I am crabby...better go outside and soak in the sun!!!

Keep my speakers turned off because of this. The talking websites are very annoying.

What is really awesome [not] is when someone blogs purely to post their listings (well that part doesn't bother me) but has music on each and every listing...so when you click on their main blog page that has several blogs on it...you have a gazillion different songs playing.  It actually is nausea inducing.

I wrote to that person and told her about it..she wrote back and said she doesn't post her blogs (duh..that annoyed me...why blog!!??) but she'd have her tech person look into it.   I visited her blog again about a week later and still the same problem.

She's blogging for nothing.  If someone happens to hit one blog of hers, fine; heaven help them if they want to see what else she's blogged about!!

Agreed! User friendly means you should have a choice (ie, player on the side like you mentioned).

I generally keep the volume off on my computer just for this reason.  Hate the sudden blare of music and/or a voice.

Personally, I find that very annoying.  Another thing I don't enjoy are websites that have introductory pages.  I just want to go to the meat and potatoes site.

Elaine..

A quick quiz.

which one is worse?

The site that makes your mouse cursor have trailing bubbles or the ones that make you listen to their jabber?

A.  It's a tie.

If microsoft or firefox are looking for next big thing to add a browser setting for it would be to allow us to turn theses off.

There's no substitute for EXPERIENCE!
This is definitely invasive marketing.  I dislike it also!

Oh, that's funny.  It is distracting and they should ask your permission.

To everyone: After the sun went down  I came back in, and had the family over for dinner...you have been quite busy here while I was away...So the consensus is......drum roll....

So here is what we have learned....

1. Don't make noise.....yes, we can use mute...but the red X is faster...lol

2. DON'T WRITE IN CAPITAL ALL ACROSS THE PAGES

3. DO NOT USE Trailing mouse thingies...I hate those too!

4. The sun does shine in Washington...got another one of those days today...that's 3 in a row. Whoo-hoo

5. Have our competition be sure to use items 1-3!!!!!

Elaine:  I find myself now enjoying "quiet" shhhhhhhh...more and more often.  I typically keep my sound off on my computer because I don't like all the sounds it makes (like the "ding" every time an e-mail comes through). It actually scares me sometimes!  LOL  :-)

I hate when it happens and you can't tell where in the heck it's coming from. It takes about 10 minutes to locate the offensive thing and shut it off.

Elaine, glad you felt comfortable enough to share your feelings.  Better to get it out than have an implosion.  Good for you...

Elaine,

It was 29 this morning in Bellingham......you have sun?? Love Bellingham by the way, lived there for 5 years.

Back to your blog, yes that irritates me too.  Wayyyy to much noise anyway don't need unsolicited stuff.

Elaine- I hate that when  I click and I get audio without my permission. I do a lot of blogging in the middle of the night when everyone is asleep. If I forget to mute my speakers, wow, the house could wake up! I then am fumbling around trying to get the volume icon up and clicked on, and of course, at those times, my laptop decides it wants to be slow, just for me :) Katerina

Elaine, Congrats on being highlighted in the 'Hidden Gems in the Rain'. I on my way over to read another one of your blogs.

I am glad you brought this subject up. I have been debating doing am overlay talking personality. You talked me out of it.

I don't like music either: unless it is oh so quiet or I have pre-selected it.

I look forward to seeing more of you in the Rain.

Good post...and it did teach me a lesson too.  My son did a slide show for me on a previous blog and I may have to take off the music.  Thanks for the heads up.

I have had this happen in a few blogs lately and I can't agree more. I've actually started to turn my sound off while in the rain until I see something that I want to hear! Thanks for bringing the subject up and I think it has its place, but like you said, I want it to be my choice.
