Feng Shui This---Part Eight--And The Moral of The Story Is...

Poor George. The home he loved so dearly was a large part of his early demise. It wasn't long afterwards that his wife, Martha, died and Mt Vernon began it's spiral into neglect.

Restoration

Mount Vernon was never successful as a private home after his death. After falling into near ruin the estate was bought in 1858 by the Mount Vernon Ladies Association. They have painstakingly restored it to its former beauty. Mount Vernon is second only to the White House in the number of visitors it welcomes; a fit and beautiful tribute to the father of our country.

When we look at the years following Washington's death we see that the 7th period and 8th period water stars were not supported. This explains why the mansion had deteriorated so badly in those years. With no support, there would be no money.

In 1853 the Mount Vernon Ladies Association was formed to purchase Mount Vernon for $200,000. Period 9 was ruling and the water star had its water. The water was headed down the river, so wasn't strong, but it still was enough to help bring the mansion to the attention of patriots who would contribute what they could to bring Washington's house back to its previous glory. Wealth had returned to Mount Vernon, but it would be another 40 years before it would get comfortable. In 1904 the 3 water star was back in the Potomac, bringing home vibrant energy once more.

So, the moral to the story, you ask? A house that supports a military man, a leader and a president may not be a good house for a retired statesman.

It's my belief that the house was intended to support the country, through the man.

You may want to check your facts - George Washington died at age 67 which was above average for the 18th century. Martha lived 3 more years - not exactly shortly after.

Yes, he lived a long life for those days...but when you look at where he lived...most of the time he was away from home. He only got to visit Mount Vernon at the most a few months at a time...then he was off being George Washington.

Check out the timeline below and you'll see what I mean. He was gone much more than he was home. And, when he finally retired...the house didn't support his retirement.

	1752-1758	George Washington serves as aide to General Braddock and as commander of the Virginia Militia
22	1754-1763	Fought in the French and Indian war and in 1754, purchased a life interest lease for Mount Vernon from Lawrence's widow.
	1757	Raised the roof and added a third floor to Mount Vernon.
27	1759	George Washington marries Martha Custis...and lives in her house a while before bringing her to Mt Vernon.
29	1761	Lawrence's widow dies and George Washington inherits Mount Vernon.
41	1773	Martha Washington's 17 year old daughter, Patsy, dies during a seizure.
42	1774	George Washington attends the First Continental Congress in Philadelphia.
	1774-1778	Two side additions to the original house are built onto Mount Vernon.
43	1775	November: Martha Washington leaves Mount Vernon to spend the winter with her husband in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
	1775-1783	Commander in Chief of the Continental Army. Spent only 10 days at Mount Vernon.
44	1776	Continental Congress signs the Declaration of Independence.
46	1778	Valley Forge
	1781	John Parke Custis follows General Washington to Yorktown as an aide.
	1781	Martha Washington's son, John Parke Custis, dies after contracting camp fever at Yorktown.
51	1783	Returns to Mount Vernon after a peace treaty is signed in Paris, ending the Revolutionary War.
57	1789	George Washington leaves Mount Vernon for New York to assume the Presidency of the United States, visiting home 15 times in 8 years.
	1790	George and Martha Washington, accompanied by their two youngest grandchildren, move to their new home in the new US Capitol, Philadelphia.
65	1797	George Washington retires to Mount Vernon.
67	1799	George Washington becomes ill on December 12 and dies at Mount Vernon, on December 14.
	1802	May 22, 1802, Martha Washington dies at Mount Vernon
	1853	Mount Vernon Ladies Association is formed to purchase Mount Vernon for $200,000 in period 9, just before the Civil War begins
