I would like to share a situation that came up a couple weeks ago between my Seller clients, and a contractor they hired for a service...
A few weeks ago, our office planned a huge Parade of Homes in a gated community. With the cooperation of the Homeowner's Association, we were able to have the gates open all weekend, and coordinated a charity drive along with the event. It was highly successful, and we were very proud of the results.
Prior to the event, however, we had an issue with one of our listings. The Seller had selected a cleaning service to have the house thoroughly cleaned for to the event. The person they chose arrived at the house the day before the event, looked at the house, and turned around and left saying "I need more supplies". They never returned.
As if this wasn't bad enough, the Sellers had already paid the company for the cleaning. After attempting to contact this individual for most of the day (as well as the person who referred them to the Seller), I eventually got a hold of them at 6pm that night.
"I had car trouble. I can't get out there until next Wednesday," was their pathetic excuse. When reminded that there was an event beginning in a few hours, their response was "Well, I'm going out of town!" Funny how they can get out of town when they want to, but can't show up at a job they were paid to do.
When I asked how they could possibly justify this behavior, especially since he was self-employed and this was his ONLY business, his only response was "I can't help it if I have car trouble." He claimed he would refund the money to my Sellers, but as of this date, I have no confirmation he ever did so. My team & I ended up cleaning the home ourselves.
It's amazing to me that someone could run their business that way... with no pride or accountability. I suppose that if karma has her way, he will not stay in business for long.
