The World Renowned Poet Dr. Maya Angelou is coming to Dallas, Texas.  On March 1, 2008, Dr. Angelou will be appearing as the Keynote Speaker at the Voices of Hope presentation at the Meyerson Symphony Center ... on the Fifth Anniversary of the Invasion of Iraq.

Joining Dr Angelou at the Meyerson Symphony Center will be the Voices of Peace Chorus, with Timothy Seelig, Conductor.  The Voices of Peace Chorale includes members of the Turtle Creek Chorale, the Women's Chorus of Dallas, One Achord, MosaicSong, and the Cathedral of Hope Sanctuary Choir.

Also appearing and performing at the Voices of Peace presentation are the New Texas Symphony Orchestra with Kathryn Brown, Conductor; and the Male Chorus of the First Baptist Church, Hamilton Park, with John Tatum, Conductor.  Tickets are available at www.H4PJ.org .

This joyous celebration of peace is being presented by the organization Hope For Peace & Justice, Michael Piazza, President.  Addtional information is also available at the website www.h4pj.org .  From hearing many of these performers in the past, and from both reading the works of Dr. Maya Angelou, and actually seeing and hearing her speak, this event... the Voices of Peace... will truly bring Hope to all who attend.

Chris:  That is really great !  I am wondering... could you get Rhiannon to write a report or an essay on what she "got" out of reading Phenomenal Woman ?  Perhaps the two of you could co-author a post on Active Rain about her reaction.  That... would be too cool !

Alan:  Different poets appeal to different people in different ways.  Apparently Robert Frost "speaks your language."  That is awesome.  Perhaps you could write a post on one of your favorite works of his ?

Chris:  I would just love to have her share that.  How great for her own voice to be heard.  I've heard that many great authors and story-tellers have started this way :)

I love Maya Angelo ~ wish I was there to attend.  She is such a woman of humble wholeness.  I also love to listen to Marianne Williamson.

Cheryl:  She truly is an inspirational person.  I have seen her speak, and have watched as she... in such an effortless way... had the "room" in her hands... and held them with her words.  It was truly amazing to watch.

Renee:  I think your description of Maya Angelou's "humble wholeness" truly conveys her spirit.

I must admit I had not heard of Marianne Williamson until your comment.  Thank you for mentioning her.  I have just very quickly read about her, and she also seems like a wonderful person.  I have been to a few Unity Churches, and her attempt at severing her church's connection with the Association of Unity Churches was quite a bold move.

In perusing some of her theology and her beliefs, they in many ways parallel some of the facets of the early Gnostic Church teachings... and even some of the beliefs of the current interest being shown in Gnosticism.

I have read many, many books both on Gnosticism, and on the Gnostic Gospels found at Nag Hammadi, and, with this quick excerpt of Marianne Williamson's ideas, I feel I need to do some further reading and research on her theology.  Again, Renee... thanks for sharing.

I have never heard of Gnosticism.  Isnt this great when we share and learn?  I love that.  Marianne Williamson wrote a wonderful book called, A Return to Love.  She began her ministry after ready A Course in Miracles.  Anyway, you may want to check  out A Return to Love.  And I am going to look up Gnosticism.  Thanks for the comment and sharing.

Oh Karen,  I think you posted this just in case we could find a great flight to Dallas in time.  What a show  that would be to see in person.  I wonder if PBS is going to air it.  I wish I could come down for it!  Wow how exciting.

Karen:  Wouldn't that just be great if you could get a cheapie flight ?  I think I might call the local PBS outlet... KERA... and see if I can get them to cover it... and play it later on.  That would be excellent.  Take care...

I have never had the privilege of hearing her speak in person. I have listened to her speak on television many times. I am a huge fan of her writing and can vividly recall her reading at former President Clinton's inauguration. Click HERE for the Youtube video of this event. I am going to forward your post to my sister who lives in Dallas.

Hi Rich:  I remember her at the Clinton Inauguration.  She is such a national treasure.  I will watch the YouTube video... so thanks so much for the link.  And... so you have a sister in Dallas.  Gee... ya know... if she ever needs the services of a really great Realtor... I do have someone in mind... LOL.  Again, thanks for sharing.

Believe me Karen Anne, that has already crossed my mind! She is renting right now, a high rise apartment in downtown, but I will definitely give her your name when she is ready to buy.

Midori:  I have heard that, too, about her.  She has sort of an "aura" about her.  I wonder if those who are sensitive to things like that can actually sense or "see" her aura ?  I would love to find that one out.

Deborah:  I think Chris is a real gem... not only for posting me as a gem... but for simply being who she is.  Hi Chris... Hi Rhiannon (waving across the cyberspace... .)  Chris, thanks so much for thinking of me.

Deborah... Maya is just a very unique and special person.  I don't think one could do much better than to aspire to emulate her integrity and wisdom.  In looking back at the word "aspire"... I think I see the word "spirit" in it.  Maya Angelou's spirit is just amazing.

I would love to have you either post about Carole's post in a "Gems" post.  I would love to read it.  Carole and her daughter having tea with Ms Angelou.  What a story to be able to tell.  Deborah, thanks for sharing.
