Plunge

Expose yourself to the coolest event of the year!

Expose yourself to the 2007 Polar Bear Plunge and you'll be exposed to a spectacle like no other! For just $50 in pledges, Plunge participants take a quick dip in the Chesapeake Bay to raise funds for Special Olympics Maryland, the state's largest year-round organization devoted to sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Anyone can participate! (Under 18 requires parent or guardian signature.)

Cool prizes for Plungers: With just $50 in pledges,
Plungers automatically get the official Polar Bear Plunge Sweatshirt, lunch courtesy of Damon's Grill, a group color photo, a 30-day membership to any Merritt Athletic Club and bragging rights over all the people who couldn't bear it. Plus, the more money Plungers raise, the more cool stuff they can get - like essential Plunge gear, a great ski vacation or even airline tickets.

Personal Plunge Page: Plungers can create their own Plunge Web Page so that friends, family and co-workers can visit and donate right online.

The event is open to the public, and all spectators are welcome free of charge. All proceeds benefit Special Olympics Maryland.

Ellie,

What a fun way to help Special Olympics!

I missed the part in your blog when you talk about what YOU did.  Did you do this in the past as well?  What did it feel like to you?  Will you be a participant this year?

In 1972. when I was 17, I walked into the Atlantic Ocean at Atlantic City, NJ.  It was about 20 degrees that day and it was freezing!  The thing that was weird is that although I was cold going in, colder yet submerged, when I got out I felt warm.

Don't think my ticker would take this "shock" treatment today (ha, ha).

Thanks for the blog and thanks for the memories!

Lucky :)

Wrong.  It's just wrong.  The fundraising is right.  The plunge is wrong!  I think they should pay $100 not to go in.

Lucky. I actually have not participated in the plunge yet. Last year was balmy temps, but this year it is going to be cold. Last year I was pregnant and this year I have infant that does not need a sick Mommie giving him a cold!!! (I know, excuses, excuses) I always pledge $2500 instead.

I do organize a completly separate fundraising event for SOMD. This year it will be the "3rd Annual Kangaroo Treasure Hunt" It's a treasure hunt on motor cycles.....my passion.

Last year was the intended 3rd Annual, but we had inclement weather (For riding that is not so good) and I had just had a baby and was not riding yet!!!

Years before have been great and raised good money for SOMD. I have a wonderful partnership with this amazing organization and Harley Davidson of Maryland. I am proudly the "Preferred Realtor of Special Olympics Maryland"

I am a Maryland transplant from many other places, most recently Florida, but since 1997 I have found my true home in the heart of this great State. Maryland has it all. Mountains 3 hours to the West, the Atlantic Ocean 3 hours to the East and head North and South for either Philadelphia and New York or Washington DC. It is the perfect location! The Metro Baltimore area offers a rich mix of history and modern amenities. City living, suburbia or "not a neighbor in sight" is available in this area. Excellent Schools, amazing communities and an incredible location is why many people choose to live in Central Maryland. I proudly help my clients buy and sell all types of homes in Howard County and beyond. Enjoying the entire process is my goal for my clients. Every transaction is different and everyone has different needs. I know the Metro Baltimore area well and I am current on the Real Estate Market activity- That's my job. As your "Buyers Agent" I will work diligently to find you the home that suits all your needs. I will update you immediately when a home matches your search criteria.
