Usually, just white fluffy snow...but very very rarely freezing rain and then rain and then sheer ice appears under all that white stuff.
Well..this year we have snow, and ice too. Got the patch around the office front door squared away but you can see, more salt, more chopping of ice after hours for exercise. The mobile unit with the sand and salt spreader is on the way, but EVERYONE needs to have a visit today. Luckily it is school vacation week, and most of the local folks are off to Bangor Maine to watch the basket ball tournaments. Houlton boys team plays tonight, girls tomorrow afternoon. Boy's Blackhawks Ice Hockey team skates next Monday in the playoffs. Who needs to go to an arena with these conditions for perfect "pond hockey". Think if you are a mailman, or elderly with a walker, these conditions are dangerous. Easy to get up ended and everything you are carrying..digital cameras, contract folders, groceries...the works goes skyward as you land on your keester. Take it easy if you have these kind of conditions in your snow belt states across the country. Have a little patch in front of the office door cleared away and making progress on the rest...but when you have 5 inch plus ice from snow that suddenly was rained on and then temperature dropped to make a solid "rink" around properties in Northern Maine, it adds a challenge when you run to a closing, or zip to a listing appointment. The snowplows could not keep up with driveway snow fall and that is why the bare pavement did not show thru each storm. That packed snow became the future ice with a little rain, add a little above 32 degree weather, a period of sunshine and then temperature drop over night to finish the process. Not the kinda of conditions under foot to "zip" anywhere. Really makes you think of being 90
years and afraid to go out because of worry about breaking a hip that does not mend fast or at all when you are in that age bracket. Help older folks stay inside thru the ice clean up by calling and asking if they need anything at the grocery store while you are there. Some day you will be in the same boat and not too wild about putting on your skates to get around Maine!
Oh no!!
I recall exchanging a couple snow versus slushy icy snow just a few days back!! I hope I didn't jinx you!!
