Preparing for the Introduction

By
Mortgage and Lending with Canopy Mortgage, LLC NMLS 124492

I have become a firm believer that there is no such thing as luck in business. Many have told me that luck is the convergence of preparation and opportunity. I never fully understood that until recently. I was being introduced to a new potential referral partner and was 100% prepared to tell them about myself.

The only problem was that I did not do any research on the individual I was being introduced. I was flattered that the other party viewed my website and even asked of others their opinion about me. I unfortunately was not even cognizant of their specialty.

With the plethora of information available digitally, there is no reason not to learn the basics of those who you wish to gain their loyalty. Furthermore, if a Google search does not provide results, simply call and ask.

I think it is very important to google someone before meeting them.  Especially a potential referral partner it will amaze them when you show that you know about their business.

I think this is a good reminder. We are frequently ready to sell ourselves, but we need to win over others, and to do that takes an effort to be interested in them.
