I see a lot of strange things driving through the streets of New York. I came across this today on my way home from work. I couldn't help but to stop and take a few pictures to share.

I feel very bad for the man that was driving the truck. He will probably loose his job over this.

They spray paint on the clearence sign coming in does make it difficult to read.

I used to have a tractor, many years ago. Anytime it looked close, I used to inch my way under, hanging out, or getting out and checking. It was scary.

One time, as I was passing under, a train passed overhead. The weight dropped the bridge and a bolt caught my top. Bad... not nearly as bad as this.

They usually let the air out of the tires to lower the trailer in order to get it out.

The bridge almost always wins in these contests---just act like a giant can opener.

...that's gonna leave a mark!

You're probably right about losing his job.  I thought it was an owner/operator, but looking at the pictures its almost definitely a company driver.  That's really pretty sad.

The only thing that could save him is if they check the measure and it's off. Repaving somtimes causes problems. I doubt that's the case here though.

Steve, scary situation. kinda hard to control the vehicle at freeway speed and judge the opening of the bridge. Good thing he wasn't trying to go out to the end of Long Island.

Hi Tom,

No freeway speed. Ave. P in Brooklyn.  Two lanes in each direction, Red light/Stop sign almost every corner.

Howdy Steven

It's good to see ya out and about in the rain.

There are about 4 places back in K.C., Mo., that I had seen this happen.

Very bad thing when this does happen.

Have a good one

That looks like a pretty new trailer.  Not sure what a new one goes for, $30 - 40,000 maybe?  Luckily it's not a reefer, those can go for up to $80,000.  My brother and uncle are both owner/operators, luckily they are not in the picture.

I have a feeling nothing good is going to come of this situation. Every once in awhile I see this happen in San Antoinio. Truckers coming through and not familiar with the area. We have seen alot lately where their load shifts and topples the rig.

Thanks for the great pics.

Carl, my brother just came out of Jarrell, TX today, he's on his way to Snowflake, AZ.  He's an owner/operator.  I help find him loads some times.  I saw a few loads coming out of New Braunfels today, any from you ;-)

Kinda looks like a tight squeeze to me. After this entanglement, he was probably thinking that he KNEW that he should have made that left turn at Albuquerque.

No Joseph - No loads from New Braunfels that I know about. What all does he haul? I saw a mower awhile back on Ebay that I was interested in but the freight was really high so I didn't bid on it. I keep thinking it was somewhere in AZ but don't remember for sure. I'll keep that in back of my mind for future reference.

Carl, my brother hauls whatever load is paying good.  He's an owner/operator with a 53' dry van (that means trailer).  He's been getting about $2/mile lately.
