"LENN, CAN YOU RECOMMEND A GOOD HONEST AUTO REPAIR SHOP?"

That is one of the first questions that relocating home buyers ask and they ask it on the first home tour. A good honest auto repair shop is critical to our quality of life.

Relocating families can always find popular and known chain grocery stores, drug stores, convenience stores, gasoline stations and other merchants that have national name recognition.

However, when it comes to necessities such as auto repair shops, personal recommendations mean everything.

I RECOMMDED LOVETTSVILLE BP SERVICE

My personal experience was unique because for years I had been fortunate to live close enough to Pat Goss Car World that I had a supurb auto maintenance shop. Pat Goss is a nationally known and respected automobile expert. They had cared for my vehicles for some 15 years. So, when I built a new home in Lovettsville, I was apprehensive about this important service. To commute to Pat Goss's shop in Maryland for service was just too time consuming, about 6 hours including service and travel time. So, I gave the Lovettsville BP shop my Sequoia for a routine oil change, lube and tire rotation soon after moving to Lovettsville. The service was friendly and timely. Then one day, while driving in the rain, I realized that my back windshield wiper wasn't working. I made an appointment, drove to BP and left my vehicle for them to trouble shoot the problem. They drove me home and I waited. About 2 hours later, the call came that my car was ready. Yes, they picked me up and drove me to collect my Sequoia. The charge was $6.00.

"My goodness, $6.00?? That's not very much, what was the problem, a fuse?

"No, ma'am, he said, your window wasn't all the way up. The window has to be all the way up for the control to work."

THAT IS AN HONEST SHOP!

Wow - That is a great shop! Usually it's $100 just to pull your car up to the repair guy's garage!

Oh to find a trustworthy auto tech. It always seems that when I do find one, shortly after I've made my decision to call this person for all my car work, he moves to another job or out of town. :( You are very lucky, Lenn

I miss that type of service station a lot! In fast paced suburbs these types of services have dissappeared!

Lenn - $6.00? Did that even pay for the gas to shuttle you back and forth? That auto repair shop is a keeper!

Lenn, it is difficult to find an honest one. I am sure they appreciate the great recommendation.

Lenn, This is a great series. I just may have to borrow this idea and write a series which would be a relocation package.

Lenn, Great Post!! It is so hard to find a good and honest mechanic. I know I took my car to the dealer when I heard a noise. They told me it needed $1,800 worth of work. After listening to their sales pitch I told them that what they where telling would not be the cause of the noise I was hearing. I was born at night just not last night..ha ha.... Took it to another shop the repair was $400 job..:-) and the noise went away.

Matthew. There is only one thing that will take me to a dealer and that would be a manufacturers recall. I buy new cars and never see the dealer again.

I've been fortunate and have had good auto service shops for 20 years. I'm close to 50K miles on my Sequoia and I will drop it off to Pat Goss for a few days for the 50K service because his shop has the advanced equipment for a complete physical. I'll have to rent a car, but this is all "preventive maintenance". But, for routine service and minor repairs, tires, routine service, my local shop is wonderful.

Dan. Thanks. I think it's going to work well for me for other areas too. I'm planning one now for Purcellville. KHov is starting a new spec home and I'm going to follow the construction and hope I can interest a good buyer. In the mean time, I'll update a post about Purcellville.

I have only 2 more to go on the Lovettsville series. I'm going to do the recreation center today and then only one more to go.

Ray. They were very gracious when I asked to take photos. They are a very friendly shop.

Norma. Their shop is very reasonable. Also, when I can't figure out how to work something on my vehicle, which is like a spaceship or 747, they are always ready to help out with a smile.

Jim. True. We're often limited to the dealer or a gasoline station that has a "mechanic".

Kathy. Indeed. I know it and let them know it every time I'm there.

James. True. Car repair is very expensive. Even simple service is expensive. I use Mobil One synthetic oil and just that is a small fortune, but I think worth it.

Lenn, I am new here to AR, just approaching 20,000 so you know how new. Your blog is an awesome outline on great information for your community. I am very glad I have subscribed to your blog!
