One of the prettiest old church buildings I know about is located in Center Point, Texas.   Center Point is a small community about ten miles east of Kerrville, Texas on Highway 27.  Center Point is an unincorporated town and sits on the banks of the Guadalupe River.  It is a beautiful stretch of river almost untouched and not well developed.

                                                                              CPUMC

The town itself used to be a bustling community with two banks, four hotels, two blacksmiths, two meat markets, a library, two lumber yards, drug store, and many other shops as well as a fair grounds and race track not far from the railroad depot.  It was really something back in its heyday a hundred years ago.  There are several old churches but the one that has the most interest to me is the Center Point United Methodist Church.  The building was absolutely GRAND back in 1911 when it was constructed.                         historical marker on CPUMC

There is an historical marker on it today, and the corner stone names the building committee members.  If you ever get this way, please come see it.  The inside is even more beautiful than the outside.  The high ceiling, the light fixtures, the stained glass windows, the choir loft is very inspiring.  I have gone there for Sunday evening singings and the sound in that building is melodious.

Unfortunately, the town has died down and the old church has few members that remain.  It is so sad to see her unappreciated, for she is so well adorned.  The history gushes from this part of Texas.  You will not be disappointed if you are on a history trek and decide to drive to Center Point and the beautiful Texas Hill Country.  Call  me if you need a guide.

The Guadalupe River flows gently through the town.  Once there were cypress mills along the river.  Cypress shingles last for a hundred years and there are a few homes in the area that still have good cypress siding.  Note the cypress trees in the photo.  In the winter their leaves die but soon they will turn green again.  The leaves are small and look like little ferns.  They are very beautiful and grow along the rivers and creeks of the Texas Hill Country.  From a distance, one can always spot water by the tops of the cypress trees.

Thanks Judi,    I did already have the pictures as I find old churches and other buildings fascinating and I'm always taking pictures.  I like history and read all the historical markers I can find.  After all what is a good Texas Hill Country guide without that kind of knowledge? :)

Ricki, I enjoyed reading about the church in Center Point, Texas. I wish I could have seen the inside of Center Point Methodist Church, it sounds like it is a beautiful church. I also enjoyed reading about the Cypress trees. I'm ready for you to show me around your great state of Texas.

Hi Gena,  You just let me know when you can come and I'll be happy to show you around.  In fact, we are having an ARGathering & BBQ on April 12th.  We would love to have you come for that.  Texas is a big place and the Hill Country is the prettiest part.  Of course,  there are other gorgeous areas too.  Any kind of terrain you like is available in Texas.  That's why it is so special.  Variety!

The cypress we have here only grow here.  There are other kinds of cypress that grow in East Texas.  The rivers here are crystal clear.  It's Paradise for sure.  I'll introduce you to some of my clients that have moved here from Calif., Florida and New York.  Come on down! :)

So nice.  I finally posted my entry and decided I would go educate myself on other churches that have been noted in the contest.  We are moving our residence from Bulverde back to our home in the Galveston area.  I will miss the hill country yet I am a beach bum.  I do love your post.  Good luck.  Your post is great.

Congratulations Ricki on winning the contest.  We had two judges, Gena Riede she voted your post 2nd place2nd place winner.  So half of the points (400) would be 200 points from her.

Our second judge was Lucky Lang and he voted your post as the 3rd place winner (300), so you get 150 3rd place winnerpoints from him, for a grand total of 350 points + your 200 for posting.  So you will be receiving a total of 350 extra points.  YIPPEE, and you won :) the best church in Texas contest from Texas Real Estate group.  Thanks for participating, and again congratulations on your winning post.  Liz

I will be writing a post and quoting what the judges had to say about your post, hopefully tomorrow, and turning your extra points won into AR.  I stared the three winners, and mine (the judges voted mine as the best clog in contest but not for first, second, or third place winner since Marchel and I took ourselves out of the contest for points so yall could have them, as it should be.  For some reason when I stared your post it did not move up to a featured post?  I don't know why nd the only way I think we can fix it is for you to take it off our group and then re post it to our group and then I will re star it, and that will hopefully move it up to featured.  Let me know when you are available to do it, and we will get on the phone together while we do it and hopefully it will work.  Liz

Ricki, I just love the hill country and what a lovely church. I have a cousin and her husband that bought an old church that looks much like this one to live in! It was on the main square of their little town. They set up an antique shop upstairs and lived down. What a wonderful life! Later in the rain~Deb

Hi Deb,   I love old churches and they do make good homes like your cousin knows.  I would like to have one myself.  Can't wait to see you in about a week.  We are hooking up an RV on Friday night at the Pomarosa.  When are you getting there?  Friday night or Saturday? Let me know  OK?  Ricki :)

No Carl,  I just quit working myself and besides I saved her a piece of cake.  It's in the freezer.  Do you think she will want it at the BBQ?  Probably not with all those special desserts we are having! I want some of her bread pudding for sure!

Ricki, I knew you'd save me a piece of cake!!!   Bet you had to get it away from Carl & Dale.  I don't want it at the barbeque -- Miz Liz got a nice bottle of wine -- I'll eat my cake now, while sipping a glass of wine.

Whew, it's been a hectic couple of weeks -- I hope it slows down a little for me to get the house ready for the "surprise" guest.  I think I may have Sunday off -- so after church, we can come home and clean.  And hope it stays thru the weekend.  I'm looking forward to seeing everyone!!!

Glad you got the cake Judi and the wine.  Put your feet up and relax a while.  So get your house clean this weekend and wrap up your deals so the next weekend is free to just have fun and play with all your AR friends.

I was suppose to go to a dinner meeting at 6:30 tonight -- I didn't get finished writing the contract and emailing it to the wife for signatures until about then.  Then, I completely forgot about the meeting and headed home -- and it's really bad, because I was the hostess!!!   Oh my, shame on me.  :(

Ricki, don't worry you'll get some of the bread pudding -- some people might not get even a small taste. :)

Ricki - Sounds like to me old age is closing in on Ms. Judi - getting forgetful. Wait until she gets my age. Ceil says I'm getting "squirrely". I think this squirrel is eating your Pecans Judi, so no Pecan pie for the AR Gathering on April 12th. Now you will have to make breadpudding.

Carl, I was really tired and just wanted to get home and relax.  I guess I didn't really want to go to that meeting that badly.  I had planned it for another night, that was better for me and some other members, the chairman, vetoed it and changed the night on us.  I'm thinking it was a subconscious thing -- I'm sure my absence made a statement.  :)

Never fear, I know where to get some good fresh pecans for my 2 pecan pies!!!   And, I'm making bread pudding!
