I was playing in the rain tonight and came across a post by Andrew Lenza who asks the question "Is it me or is Active Rain starting to sound like some uptight parochial grammar school?" Now at first I'll admit I thought he was referring to the many gramatical errors in my blogs... but alas he has a much larger issue to tackle.
It seems as though the changes in Active Rain are being noticed by other Rainers. As the membership grows it's inevitable that the feel of the Rain will change. It seems as though we're straying, or being steered, into the undercurrent of political correctness. Heaven forbid.
I loathe detest hate political correctness. I'm all for being polite but for the love of Mike if you have something to say, say it. If you have an opinion that's contrary to your fellow bloggers, have no fear, the world will not come to an end. Or will it?
As a consumer using Active Rain to research real estate, I would want more than simple market reports. Show me some personality. Overwhelmingly consumers decide to use a particular agent (or not) based on how they feel - is the agent easy to talk to - do they seem interested in our needs - are they personable - do they have a aversion to my drooling cocker spaniel - are they Packers fans?
I've heard from other agents say they can and will work with anyone. It's purely business. That approach does work but it just doesn't work for me. We're happy to say that our clients have, with few exceptions, become friends as well as clients. To us, real estate is a people business. We have worked with a few over the years that we just didn't 'click with.' We try to avoid that now at all costs.
We are who we are... God fearing Christian, family oriented, outdoor enthusiast, man-made-global-warming-disbelieving, carbon footprint stomping, pro-energy independent, drill-in-the-arctic, right wing, conservative, preservationist, Pledge of Allegiance, One Nation Under God, equal opportunity Realtors.
ActiveRain is an incredible forum... both for the professionals we have the privilege to interact with but also for the coveted Google Juice that a majority of us seem to be addicted to. Rather than stifle our individuality, I say we celebrate it.

Some great points. With growth there will always be change. I guess as long as it is a public and professionsl forum it will stay under control (or at least I hope it does)
Happy Selling!
