In times like these we need to think of creative ways to market our services.  Here are some non-traditional ways you can get your ads out there.

  • Ads in schools, health clubs, and bowling alleys.
  • Ads on the telephone while on hold, restrooms, and cinemas before they play the movies.
  • Ads on ATM receipts, vending machines, and taxis.
  • Recently a large church in the area, put together a database of members in business and did a directory.

Can you think of some other non-traditional advertising or marketing vehicles?

If your area has a lot of tourist traffic, try ads on the backs of hotel/motel key cards.  It's not that expensive - basically the agent purchases a batch of disposable keycards for the hotel, and pays to print them - with their name and logo.

Endea - Interesting post and I will watch it to see if some neat ideas are shared.  I have often wondered what the cost was of advertising at the theatre before a movie?  Wouldn't seem many would write it down or commit to memory, with their hands firmly in a greasy bag of popcorn are around their significant other.  I will have to think of some unique ideas and check back in...

Derek - I agree about the ads in a movie theater.  I also wonder about those real estate ads on shopping carts.  Do people really get calls?

Endea - I know a person who does that a lot at a local supermarket and I don't think it translates to very much.  The key is to get referred out ... everyone knows a Real Estate Agent, right?  :)

Endea and Derek - my company has paid for advertising that precedes movies in our local theater. It's great image advertising and a nice way for us to support the community - they'll remember the name and logo, then go home and look up the phone number.

One form of print advertising that was new to me and rather unique...local agent ads with website and contact info on prescription drug bags. Great way to reach a broad market - seniors who may be downsizing, parents with growing families, renters, etc.

Kim - Prescription drug bags?  I am going to share this one with a friend of mine who only does reverse mortgages.  I have never seen ads on the bags but I can't think when was the last time I had to get a prescription.

Thanks for your comment.

I had a call from a guy printing coupon/flyers which were distributed with pizza deliveries.  It seemed kind of expensive considering that the market wasn't targetted at all.  As my broker said, "Is your target market really people who order pizzas?".

Thanks everyone for your comments.  I recently saw someone with a n ad on the bus.  Since people are going back to public transportation would this generate calls?

This is just an idea but what about talking to all your professional service offices (i.e. Doctor, Dentist, Chiropractor, ect.). Why not talk to each of them and see if you can put something in their offices. That would have great foot traffic and cost very little. You support their business why can't they support yours?

I advertise in homeowners association newsletters.  very affordable too!  to hit a whole neighborhood of 1200 homes is only $200 a quarter and to hit a higher end neighborhood(price ranges of $750k-probably $2mil waterfront homes) of 400 it was only $40 a quarter.

I have recently heard of people getting paid to tattoo business names on exposed body parts. Don't know about that one, though.... ouch!

I actually work for a company that puts together the prescription drug bags for pharmacies all over the country. If I can help anyone get linked up with someone working their area let me know. This is such an inexpensive form of direct marketing, I'm surprised more people dont use it. 910.509.5546 David Stewart
