Saint Rose of Lima Church's annual carnival is happening right now in Miami Shores.  Starting Friday,  January 26, 2007, to Sunday, January 28.

St. Rose of Lima Carnival  St. Rose of Lima Carnival  St. Rose of Lima Carnival

This is a very special community event because parishioners and school families volunteer their weekend to put the carnival together.  People attend not only from Miami Shores, but also from other schools and other areas in Miami.  The funds raised in the carnival go towards a school and parish fund used to maintain and refurbish the St. Rose of Lima facilities.    Community spirit is visible everywhere, booth sponsorship banners are placed all over the carnival, bazaar with all kinds of great stuff for sale, volunteers preparing food and manning booths with different games, 50/50 raffle, wine and beer tent, silent auction with items donated by families and local businesses, picnic area, and not to forget great carnival rides like The Ring of Fire, The Orbit and The Thunder Bolt

The Ring of Fire

I am happy to announce, or should I say.... confess, that I shared fried dough with my 2-year old today and it was delicious!  Ride-tickets and bracelets can be purchased in advance or at the carnival.  If you are in the area....don't miss the fun! St. Rose of Lima is located at  415 NE 105th Street in Miami Shores.

Merry-go-round Fun in the carnival

I love to watch the Merry-go-round and the funny faces some make.

The night shots should look great.

And yes they do grow up quick, but now I am looking forward to the grand kids.  The great thing about them is you can send them home......LOL

I could just squeeze that kiddo - what a cutie! You have to blow that picture up and frame it. Embarrass him in front of his friends in a few years. What a great piece of localism!

Thanks Chris - it's a fun weekend, deserving of a fun post.

George - you don't look old enough to be a grandpa'....what are you talking about?    I can tell you my parents enjoy spoling my kids like there was no tomorrow...and they then send them home.

I love these traveling carnivals! Sometimes they can be rather seedy, but it's definitely one of those National Geographic "Slice of Americana" kodak moments...Gee, you guys sponsored the Ice Cream booth? Did you save any for anyone else?

Mariana - Thanks - I took about 30 photos of them going around the merry go round in hopes one would be decent, and it was!

Rich - "seedy" is a funny word - I used to not like these very much, but the church is now hiring companies with uniformed workers that are pleasant and friendly.  The kids have a blast!  I will have some ice-cream on your behalf today!

Maureen - not that I'm rubbing it in, but the weather yesterday was incredible, it was 60 degrees (which I admit was a little chilly for us....that's why you see some long sleeve shirts) with sunny and clear skies.  Today we're already up to the 70's.

Craig - Yes SIR!  We do live in paradise....come visit some time, would love to have you.

It's nice to see you support the local parish.  Did the Knights of Columbus do anything for the carnival?

Hey Brian - I just checked out your Knights of Columbus post - really nice to know you are part of the organization.  As for them doing anything for The St. Rose Carnival, I really don't know.  I will ask today and will give you an answer.

We really have to get down to Miami. I want to hold that little boy and make him giggle :)

Hi Ines.. nice post and pictures.  You're lucky I did find about it earlier.. you know you only live 2 or 3 appraiser blocks from me!!!  BTW, I wanted to commend you on your quality of photos on Localism.com. They are truly contributing, with great shots and informative comments. Wish I could say the same for other spammers that are uploading for measily points.  have I told you guys that YOU ROCK!! lately?

Cute kids, btw way!! :))

Nick - 2 or 3 appraiser blocks - you are too much!  (that's about 50 miles away, right?) - thanks for the praise about my pix - I try to only include quality ones, I have seen quite a few strays in there - I hope the guys ask the owners to delete them, it really takes away from the whole concept of Localism.

The carnival is up until 11:00 PM tonight, it's not too late!  (and I did eat that elephant ear on your behalf, by the way)

JUST ADDED SOME NIGHT PIX!

Yes NICK - I am i-stalking you.....ask TLW....I love to stalk....at least the fun people here....I follow you around AR.  BTW - you could hold a gun to my head right now, and I could not remember your last name, except with a bunch of ss's and i's and Italian sounding.  BAM!  I would be dead on the floor.
