Are you missing copper?

I am an ARPAC (Arkansas Realtors Political Action Committee) Trustee for the Arkansas Realtors Association and we had our February meeting on February 18, 2008 at Mount Magazine state park lodge.  One of the issues that was brought up in the Legislative meetings was concerning the theft of copper and aluminum from job sites and vacant houses.  There has been a large number of thefts done all over Arkansas.  The thief's are taking air conditioner units, stripping wire from the walls and copper from the water lines under the house etc...  This has become a major deal for our industry.

One of the thing that was brought up and we have assigned a task force to look into this, is to have a scrap metal license.  This would force the purchasers of scrap metal to make the person bringing in the scrap metal to indentify themselves and where they acquired the scrap metal.  Plumbers, electrician etc.. would be exempt because this is in their normal activity of business.  This is just a brief overview and like I said, a task force has been assigned to look into this.  Please post any of your concerns, comments or suggestions and I will forward them on to the task force.

I know this seems to be late but we have to do something now and for the future.

I have had this happen several times.  The ones who buy are ultimately the most responsible.  Crack down on them!

Larry,

That is a great idea!  There has been several new constructions in Cabot where  they have ripped them out the walls.  It's an added expense to builders.
