I notice thats not your picture jumping in Ms. Rome....

I never did understand the concept.  Being a southern Californian I really don't get it - but hey, thats what makes this country so great - we can all do our own thing!

Now Have a Blessed Day,

I have to agree with John.  Like you, I live in Maryland, but can't seem to find the inspiration to dive into the bay in January.  I do admire the hardy souls that do so for a very good cause.

I am visiting with family in NJ this morning and we were having breakfast. The discussion led to this post. When I asked my grandson, Kyle, would he consider  to doing the plunge, he said "no way", he didn't even want to get up to have breakfast with us! But when I asked would you do it for $100 he said, "yes".

I then asked our son, Chet and he said "no way"! I asked would you do it for $100-no, $500-no, $1000-.. all No. When I got to $5,000 he agreed to.

Then on to my husband with same question. No Way! No Amount! Even went up to $1 million. NO WAY! No amount. His feelings: the money would make NO difference because the plunge would most likely "kill" him.

So Caleb, Ed and John, how much would you do it for?

Margaret, our "Polar Bear" association does that each January 1. The jump into the Puget Sound. I'm even cold thinking about it.

I don't know, I just don't know.  I definitely love the cold weather, but theres something perverse about swimming outdoors in Maryland during the winter.  I don't think that I would do and have to agree with your husband.  It would probably "kill" me as well.  I was surprised last year when Gov Erlich took the plunge.  Do you think O'Mally did it this year?

I would rather just give the money to the charity and stay warm and dry. I'm with your husband, I think the shock would do me in too!

Ed, I love the cold weather also. If O'Mally took the plunge we probably would have heard.

Carol and Laurie, I will be there with the camera. Good headlines for localism. Active Rain Members Take The Plunge!

Michael, I am with you. Pick the chariity!

Margaret,

How long do I have to be in it, and where's the hot tub? :)

I'd do it for charity I suppose!
