What's HOT about our SPOT? Lake Livingston Real Estate...

I've been asked so many times, "why would I want to live by Lake Livingston?"  Now, that's quite a question. I am a Realtor and you may think my answer would be tied in to Real Estate. It is some, of course, but I want to try to answer that question as best as I can and from the point of view of a neighbor.

So, here goes...

The water is soooo blue some days it makes me feel as if I'm looking at the ocean. Lake Livingston is 7 miles across at its largest width and seems like a sea. It calms me. We get a breeze off the water that is dryer that the Gulf and it gives less bad hair days.

Lake Livingston is a man-made lake and is huge! It's the second largest in Texas and is fed by the Trinity River. The river meanders all the way from Dallas and by the time it gets here it's really deep. Our river channel is as deep as 70 feet in areas. I feel comfortable speeding up the boat a bit!

Because our lake is man made, it is contained by a dam at the Southern end. Normally, and I do mean normally (since where there is water it will rise) we are not prone to flooding because of the spillway.

The TRA, Trinity River Authority is the Lake's governing body. Their job is to make sure our water level remains good and they watch over our waterways with care.

We still have lots of elbow room. Other lakes have become so congested that they are dangerous for jet skiing and other water activities. We don't have that problem. We have lots of growing room. Our properties don't butt up next to each other giving me claustrophobia! Because we're in the Piney Woods our banks haven't been cleared or stripped. In other areas builders have gone in and taken all the trees before building. They then plant a twig and hope it grows. Not here. Our Pines and Hardwood trees stand proud right next to the water. I love it!

The fishing is really great! I like to fish but I'm more of a catch and release fisherperson. I like to take my binoculars on the boat with me for bird watching and general nosiness!

I  love the fact that when you're in the boat it's easy to find shade. If you navigate the river you will see huge bluffs and mini-mountains that run the shape of the waters. One of the links you don't want to miss is for the Lake Livingston Park so click here: Lake Livingston Park Information click here.

Oh, and the birds!

We are lucky enough to have Bird Sanctuaries along with our protected forests. My favorite birds are out doing fly-byes. You can see them on any given day at the waters edge or while sitting on your front porch!

We tout our state bird, the Mockingbird, that sings over 1000 different songs, white Heron's, Egrets, Goons, Texas Pink Flamingo's, 100's of different species of Hummingbirds, Pelicans, and so many more!

Beautiful shots! Years ago I spent a lot of time fishing during the annual White Bass run at your lake. Lots of weekends that I could have been selling homes! :0). I t is a pretty place to visit and I imagine live at. We have a weekend retreat at Lake Limestone....wish I could go more often.

DEB - You've done an amazing job of selling your area.  I am not one for hot climates, but you made this sound so appealing that I'm ready to go and move to a lake house in Texas.  Great job!

Hey Trey, Lake Limestone is lovely too! My husband and I spent some time exploring your lake just for fun! I put you as a referral on my "Everything's bigger in Texas" blog. Check it out. Later in the rain~Deb

Thank you Jennifer. I wish I had more time to play here though. I tend to work too much. :-) Deb

Adam, this is high praise from you! I'm not one for hot climates either so I just have to stay close to air conditioning. I'm not sure I'm ready for snow either! Later in the rain~Deb

Hi I love your pictures!  I bought 3 acres on Lake Limestone a couple of years ago (I'm here now), and I have tons of birds, love them.  I've got all of those in your pictures.  Bluebirds and redbirds galore, and the red headed wood peckers too, egrets, herons, etc.  I love it up here.    This is looking off my back porch, and I own all the way to were the trees to the right of the picture all, there is one acre on the water with a boat house.  Liz

Debra, I LOVE your pictures also.  We don't live on the lake but we take all kinds of advantages sailing lakes.  I'll be honest I have never been to Lake Livingston.  It looks like a wonderful place to live.
