Signature Blocks

There are sure a lot of avenues to communicate with people, so how much is too much in your signature block at the end of an email?  Who will you connect with?  Do you use different signature blocks for different people?

My advice to you is to Keep it Simple!

Here is what mine could say......... This is way too long......

Ech and every email should include a mini biilboard, and the power of a ps and a pps should be used and used well and make sure everyone knows what you do in each and every email

I don't put the email address in the signature block as they often hit reply. I try and keep it clean and direct and not so much about advertising. I feel the signature line should be about getting back in touch with me and not so much about who I am etc.

Kim - don't forget in PA, RELRA requires you to include your license number on any communication with clients and prospects.

edited to say...I've been taught that in CE classes and heard it from a member of the real estate commission. still haven't found it in print!

Dave, Good point about the PS and PPS

Eric, hmmm see you put a post out there to help people and help yourself - true about the email line. I often refer back to an email from someone hoping they have fax/address/etc on there :)

Kim, This is not an excuse, but including the license number with communication has not been practiced in my area at all.  I have been researching for about 10 minutes the where-a-bouts of this on PAR. Can you help?? I certainly want to comply - and will be changing my signatures and informing my office immediately, but I'd like to see it before I open my mouth :)  Thank you!

Kim, I've heard it many times, even from our state's real estate commissioners. NAR's code of ethics, specifically Article 12, was updated this year to include internet advertising and communication. Here's what the main paragraph says:

Article 12
REALTORS® shall be honest and truthful in their real estate communications and shall present a true picture in their advertising, marketing, and other representations. REALTORS® shall ensure that their status as real estate professionals is readily apparent in their advertising, marketing, and other representations, and that the recipients of all real estate communications are, or have been, notified that those communications are from a real estate professional. (Amended 1/08)

I thought it was also in RELRA, but haven't come across it yet.

Kim, I appreciate it very much and will be checking into this.  I understand that Article 12 could imply license number, but could also be understood to mean stating "REALTOR(R)" or "Real Estate Licensed Salesperson" - I believe this is to ensure compliance as stated in the Consumer Notice (as well as not practicing Real Estate without a license).

Definately something to check out.  I would just add it as "better safe than sorry" but as the post is about, the signature block is getting so long!

Please know that I appreciate your advice, and time in trying to help me find it as stated by RELRA.

My pet peeve is the jumbo logo... it's more of a storage issue... some are so huge that they greatly enhance the possibility that some servers will block the email due to file size.

Kim, I try to keep mine to 5 lines or less, and avoid inserting my logo (it just takes up too much space).

***** I have verified the above information ******

I talked to PAR's Legal Hotline today, they agreed they have never heard about a requirement that you *must* include your license number on any / all communcation with a buyer.

Good tips thanks for sharing.  Sometimes we start off with a few lines and keep adding to it.

The simpler the better in my opinion.  I don't even put my office number on mine.  I would rather all calls go directly to my cell phone.

Auto signatures are important.  I do put my email incase a message is forwarded to someone else or printed and passed on, the address is still easy to find.

I used them for a while on AR, but started to get Nigerian scam and spam calls from Africa!  I removed them!
