That's right, a very popular contributer to Active Rain was interviewed and immortalized by the media.

Fran Gaspari of Patriot Land Title in Limerick, Pennsylvania was quoted on phillyBurbs.com (The Intelligencer) in an article about automated land records.

Needless to say, Fran dignified the title industry by commenting intelligently and honestly about a very complicated dilemma with far reaching implications.

I found this photo of Fran and myself taken roughly a year ago at the presentation where we met.

Fran is the good looking guy on the left.

Globalization unchecked is a big problem. It is in many of our lives and has cost many jobs. Technology fuels it. In some ways I feel I can understand the Luddites

Ed.  Very interesting link article.  It's full of the usual obfuscation, justification and falsehoods I keep reading from companies that outsource offshore.

The comment that they just outsource typing duties is comical.  There is an entire country of stay-at-home Moms who would love this work.

Ed,

Although I was impressed with the questions the journalist asked me...you always keep your fingers crossed until you see the finished article...overall I think she did a commendable job...but haste in gathering information and publishing deadlines cause some really important material to be omitted!

Thanks for the mention...where in the heck did you get that picture BTW...and how did you discover the article...I'm beginning to think you do have mystical powers!!! :^) Thanks,   Fran

The issue becomes all too complex.  The typing is being done overseas for pennies.  A domestic worker can't compete.  Also, the oversea outsources are working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Lenders are now demanding the reduced costs and ridiculous delivery times for their refinance title orders.

I'm starting to feel that liability issues are at stake in the whole offshoring scenario.  We have yet to see how title underwriters are going to respond when claims start hitting.  Will they consistently write checks to avoid bad public exposure or will they selectively pay some claims while denying others?  The latter choice is my best guess.  The ownership of overseas plants is clearly structured for underwriters to avoid financial liability should it become necessary.  It's like trying to sue a toy manufacturer in China, you can't do it.  Still toys that were manufactured in China and have known risks are sold in almost every state.

Lastly, there's a definite educational gap between domestic workers and workers at certain foreign destinations.  In India, for example, the average worker has an advanced degree and is capable of analytical reasoning.

Underwriters are positioning themselves to move all title related activities overseas.

Bob -  In reference to AMW: the post was about Fran Gaspari, not Ed Ryb. : )

Charlie - I'm deeply disturbed by the whole situation.
